Today, GEMS hosted its members in celebration of 20 years of service during the GEMS Day 20-year celebration roadshow at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. The event was a vibrant wellness and sports day featuring various sporting activities, including a fun run, soccer, volleyball, and netball matches.

Members also had the opportunity to take advantage of GEMS’ preventative and screening benefits, with qualified nurses providing comprehensive health and wellness screenings. In addition, the GEMS Member Servicing Team was on hand to assist members with their queries and provide guidance on their benefits.

The day was filled with energy, engagement, and a shared commitment to health and wellness, a true reflection of GEMS’ dedication to supporting the wellbeing of its members.

Comprehensive screening and preventive care benefits are available to beneficiaries across all GEMS options. These services do not affect day-to-day benefits as they are paid from Risk, meaning beneficiaries can access screening and preventive care without reducing their everyday healthcare benefits.

This is one of the many ways GEMS remains committed to building a healthier public service.

As part of National Disability Rights Awareness Month, the GEMS CSI team proudly donated sick bay containers to the Kabosadi Disability Centre in Ga Maja Village and the Botlokwa Special School in Botlokwa Village, Limpopo.

These sick bays will serve as safe and supportive spaces within schools for children with disabilities — enabling regular health screenings, early detection of medical issues, and continuous monitoring of learners’ wellbeing. This initiative ensures that learners with special medical needs receive timely care and attention within their school environment.

GEMS Principal Officer, Dr Stan Moloabi, attended the handover and highlighted that: “An integral part of GEMS’ CSI objective is to empower and uplift communities through initiatives aligned with the Scheme’s transitional objectives, promoting the wellbeing of the communities where GEMS operates.”

Dr Moloabi also took the opportunity to engage with the learners and staff, reinforcing GEMS’ ongoing commitment to supporting inclusive education and community wellness.

GEMS proudly partnered with the Department of Public Service and Administration and the Limpopo Provincial Government to host the 2025 Batho Pele Walkie Talkie in Thohoyandou, Limpopo on Friday, 26 September 2025.

This year’s Walkie Talkie was more than just a wellness event, it was a powerful platform for public servants to give back through a meaningful service delivery initiative. After the walk, participants rolled up their sleeves at three community outreach points, including, a school for children with learning disabilities, a children’s home and local health centre. Activities included painting and cleaning all aimed at uplifting the community and building stronger connections between government and the citizens we serve.

Together, we’re fostering a public service that is healthier, united, and truly people-centred.
