I am very passionate about being fit and healthy, as well as being confident in your own skin. Smile.Sweat.Succeed is a personal & group training business to encourage woman (and men) to get fit and healthy in a fun way. I use little or no equipment and train people one-on-one or in a group situation. For some, the gym & getting fit is a huge daunting task, the feel "judged" and out of their comfort zone - this is where i step in... I show you that there is a fun and easy way to get fit without having to be a member at a gym or without feeling completely exposed. My goal in life is to help change as many lives as possible in a fit and healthy way and to get people to love their bodies just the way it is!

Today I struggled.
This body was in no mood for any form of exercise. I felt like I was overheating, everything I did was squishing baby, my heart rate was high so I think I rested more than actually exercising 😅

I always wanted to be that preggy mama who wouldn't use pregnancy as an excuse but today a little reality set in - this beautiful body is busy growing a human and that's okay if I can't exercise like I used to.

I am absolutely loving growing a baby and loving my preggy body with all the changes that come along but I also need a little mental shift to take life a little slower for the next 18 weeks and do what I can and what my body allows me to do that day. 🤰
Some days will be better than today and I look forward to that but for now, we do what we can while baby bear tap dances in my belly all day 🧸

Work & exercise while pregnant.

I have had such an easy pregnancy so far which I am so grateful for! Not any hectic morning sickness but some smells were and still are a problem.😋
Work - My clients are all so sweet, they carry all the weights and equipment that we need so that I don't strain myself or the baby, even though I can do it - they still insist 🤭
Exercise - I am finding my energy low in both first & second trimester due to work not slowing down and busy social weekends. With that being said, I am still reaching my step goals every week but my training has changed completely.
Most training days (about 3x a week) is a brisk walk on the treadmill, followed by stretching to help prepare my body for third trimester and labour. I weight trained this week and my body took such a knock, so unfortunately I have lost strength in the muscles but I am still fit which I'm pleased about.

I am loving this journey that I am on and this week been obsessed with my little growing bump 🥰

Just like my shirt says - be kind.

With 37 days left until I close my business for my annual holiday, I am counting down the days.
I am exhausted and I know everyone around me is aswell.
So I ask, Be a little more patient, be more kind to everyone, be more loving and be more positive. It has been a long year for every one of us.

4.2km instead of 42km today.

I had really bad FOMO today. Everything in me wanted to be on the road conquering my 2022 goal.
Even though it wasn't my fault that I couldn't run but actual medical reasons, it still didn't make today any easier.
I still felt like I had failed. And I still feel like this.

Running 4.2km today was physically tough and I knew that the 42km would have been close to impossible. I don't regret putting my health first but I do find myself feeling like I am living in limbo at the moment while I find a new passion and goal.

But this feeling will pass and I'm working hard to keep fit and healthy in other ways.

Recovering after disappointment.

A hot chocolate every morning and jogging in all my spare time. This has been my life for the last 8 months.

And suddenly all taken away. No more running, no more dairy. No running gym program. Nothing.

Where do I start? Where do I find motivation to start a new sport? To give up my passion and just do something new?

It's tough. And I'm struggling...

In the gym but feeling like a lost puppy.

I was given the advice to let myself mourn for a few days or weeks. To process and then start when I'm ready again. To slowly start to find an activity that I will enjoy. But it's tough. I'm a go-getter. Everyone knows, Melissa doesn't sit still.

So at the moment, I don't have any advice on how to recover after a disappointment. But I will keep you updated.

Taking life one day at a time until I feel ready for a new challenge.

Bidding farewell to my marathon.

Unfortunately due to medical reasons, I am not medically allowed to run anymore😭
So not everyone knows but my heart rate has been spiking and staying high no matter how fit I am, so went to the doctor to get checked to keep my mamabear off my back.
Well apparently, moms know best no matter how old you are 🤭

My thyroid medication isn't working at the moment so my thyroid is busy burning out which obviously isn't a good thing.
As well as I have "dangerously high" calcium levels. I never thought you could have a bad amount of calcium in your body but apparently you can. 🤕

But this too shall pass I guess.

JUST KEEP MOVING!

These last three weeks have been a real mental struggle for me. Starting to run again after being on off sick for 2 months is tough! Mentally and physically it's a lot. My pace is slower, my distance is short but I just have to keep reminding myself to keep moving!

I am the type of person who takes on the world's problems. I have a tiny heart, not many people know this because I protect my heart against people taking advantage.
So with this being said, running is even more of a struggle because I just don't have the energy all the time to run and to help the world. When I'm running, I feel guilty for not helping someone out or not being at work. But I know that slowly but surely, I will find the healthy balance again.
Putting myself and my needs above others. But until then... The struggle is real 😅😅 but I WILL keep moving.

Hello old friend - Hashimotos flare up...

It's been a good 8 months since having a flare up and this one HIT HARD!
Haven't been feeling great since Monday.
I always read about how people with Hashimotos don't go to work some days due to not feeling well etc. And I never understood it. Until this week.
Yesterday I worked the minimal hours, just saw clients that I needed to see and that's all.
Today I took a complete day off. My body is just not happy. From a massive headache to an aching body. I am spending the day on the couch with series and LOTS of water to detox and get my body ready to conquer tomorrow!
Even without an autoimmune disease,  listen to your body and take rest days of you need them.

I did a strength session today. It sucked. I sulked.  And now we move on. Sadly, I realised today that I am running fit ...

I did a strength session today.
It sucked. I sulked.  And now we move on.

Sadly, I realised today that I am running fit and have lost all my strength when it comes to weight training. 
With my running taking priority this year,  I workout/run 5-6x a week but hardly do weight training. 
When I'm in the gym, I'm doing agility, leg exercises for hill training, HIIT sessions - ALL TO BENEFIT RUNNING but nothing for strength. 

I thought that I would be able to do both equally but with running taking up so much time, and I'm currently enjoying it more, my strength training will just have to take a back seat for this year.

Oh well. And hello quads!
