We are all for exercise snacks!

An exercise snack is a short burst of physical activity that you do throughout the day. They are typically 1-2 minutes long and can be done anywhere, such as at work, at home, or while you're out and about. Exercise snacks can be a great way to improve your overall health and fitness, and they can also help you break up long periods of sitting.

There are many different types of exercise snacks that you can do. Some popular options include:

Jumping jacks
Squats
Push-ups

"Recovering from an injury or illness can be a long and challenging process, but it's important to remember that progress is progress no matter how small. Take it one day at a time and focus on the little victories. Set realistic goals and work towards them with patience and persistence. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. And most importantly, listen to your body and give it the rest and care it needs to heal. "

As biokineticists we come across various populations which include individuals with autism and parents feel exercise is the number one therapy.

But when training children with autism, the following three factors are important:
1. Use visual cues
Visual cues help to form sequence/structure which children with autism require. It also takes away the confusion of using too much words.
2. Exercise should be incorporated into their routine
Choose a day and time to do exercise sessions and stick to those, again providing structure.
3. Persistence over perfection
Exercise should be a positive association and therefore children with autism should receive positive feedback. To them doing exercise is of greater importance than performing the exercise to perfection (but should be safe).

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) suggest that children perform 30-60 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise and 8-20 repetitions of resistance exercises. These guideline aren’t necessarily ideal for children with autism, aim to do several exercises but not a long duration. Any amount of exercise is good and as you go along, you will slowly start to increase it.

Like father, like son.

A recent study has shown that if parents exercise regularly throughout their life, those genes end up being passed onto their children. The catch is, both good and bad lifestyle choices make their way to your children.

If you would like to read more about the study, how it was done and how these traits are inherited please follow the link below.
