Will it hurt?

Sometimes, there’s sensation
🤪.

Because the body’s all too often been holding on so long… until it can’t anymore.
What often shows up as pain - tightness, spasms, discomfort,
is often the body’s way of finally getting your attention.

In a session, we work with specific points - often where muscles connect into the skeletal system, to help interrupt those patterns which allow the body to reset.

It’s not about forcing anything.
But yes… there can be moments that feel tender. A kind of “good pain” that signals something is shifting.
A fine line sometimes - but one that leads to real relief.

Q: Do I have to talk during the session?

Not at all.

Some clients chat.
Some go quiet.
Some fall asleep.
And honestly… all of it is welcome.
There’s no expectation to explain, entertain, or fill the space.

You are welcome to chat away.
And you’re allowed to simply arrive… and be.
Just know that when the body relaxes deeply - sometimes even drifting off,
that’s often when it lets go the most!

Simple words I read in a mailer from Yoga with Adriene today - yet seemingly not always as easy to live.

These are phrases I often speak into during sessions, and what I ultimately wish for you in our time together…
and this past week, I’ve experienced a deep dive and been reminded to meet them again myself - in stillness, in meditation, in breath, and in silence.
Allowing what is, without the patterened resistance.
Releasing the tension the body holds.
Letting go of what no longer needs to be carried forward.

In a Body Alignment session with me, this is where these shifts can also begin -
not in forcing change, but in opening up and allowing space for them.

Pain is often the last language the body uses when physical, emotional, or energetic loads have been carried far too long.

Just like the snake sheds its skin, the body seeks moments of release
- not through effort, but through safety.

My session work with the body’s natural rhythms, supporting release where energy has been held, and tension has lingered too long.
Not fixing.
Not forcing.
Just allowing what’s ready to move and shed 🐍

People often ask me what actually happens in a Body Alignment session.

It’s not forceful, and it’s not about correcting the body into submission. Instead, it’s a process of listening, observing, and responding to what the body is already communicating.

I’m not only working with the area where you feel pain. I’m paying attention to how your whole system is compensating around it, and how your posture, tension patterns, breathing and nervous system are all responding to one another.
Very often, the body shows me exactly what and where it needs to release, reorganise, or where it needs more support, and my role is to create the conditions for that to happen safely and respectfully.

Alignment is less about fixing, and more creating space for the restoration and flow of your own innate brain-body communication.
And when that 'conversation' starts up again, change tends to follow naturally!

Many bodies are recalibrating after prolonged periods of stress and survival mode, and your body remembers everything it has carried.

There’s nothing wrong with needing more support during this time.
So a little slowing down, a bit of compassion, and some whole-body Alignment can make this season feel a whole lot lighter.

It’s amazing how we hold everything together all year…
and then the moment we finally slow down, the tiredness hits, the emotions surface, or the tension we’ve been pushing through suddenly feels louder than ever.
When this shows up for you at the start of the holidays - please know it’s normal!
Your body isn’t “breaking.”
It’s exhaling.

The end of the year often gives your system its first real window to process what it didn’t have space to feel during the rush.
And while I won’t be available for sessions over the holiday break, I don’t want you to feel unsupported.
Here are a few small, meaningful ways that I personally love and will be tapping into myself, to help your body settle, soften, and stay steady until I’m back in practice.

🌬️ 1. Box Breathing for Overwhelm
When everything feels a bit too much, try four simple counts:
In for 4 → hold for 4 → out for 4 → hold for 4.
Repeat a few rounds.
It calms the nervous system so quickly you can feel your whole chest soften.

🧘‍♀️ 2. A Few Minutes Reset on Insight Timer
If your mind is noisy, pop in your earphones and choose a short guided meditation.
I adore Insight Timer - it’s gentle, free, and grounding.
Even five minutes can shift your whole inner state.

🌊 3. Get Into the Ocean - I cant wait to be in turquoise waters any moment now!!!!
If you’re near the sea, let the water hold you for a bit.
There’s something about the ocean that pulls heaviness out of the body - the salt, the movement, the sound.
Let it help you transmute some of what you’ve been carrying.

🤍 4. Soft Gratitude for Yourself
Not a journal session or a list - not a doing, just a being!!
Just a quiet moment of appreciation:
“I made it through this year. I’m here. I’ve grown. I’m still learning.”
Let your body feel that softness.
Gratitude is medicine.

And most importantly - give yourself permission to rest.
To not be productive.
To not fix everything at once.
To simply be.
I’ll be back in practice in the new year, ready to support you again.
Until then, take gentle care of yourself.

Your body doesn’t know it’s the 16th… But You Do

South Africa switches to holiday mode today - traffic slows, offices empty, everyone exhales…
except your body, which might still be still stuck in “just get me through the week” mode.

So if you’ve woken up feeling tired, flat, emotional, wired, or weirdly overwhelmed on the first day of leave…. your system is only now realising it can exhale.
Go slowly today.
Move gently.
Let your body catch up to the calendar.

Today I found myself pausing…
really pausing…
and feeling such deep gratitude for the journey that’s brought me to this moment.
It hasn’t been a straight line (like when is it ever - right?? I guess that's just it, it ain't supposed to be!)
It’s been a storm at times - full of pivots, lessons, redirections, quiet miracles, and the kind of growth that reshapes you from the inside out.
But grounding here now, I feel the richness of it all.
The way every challenge softened me (eventually).
The way every turning point opened something new (eventually - once I remembered to allow flow).
And the way every step - even the uncomfortable ones - guided me toward this work I love so deeply.
My heart is full for the “now.”
For the privilege of tapping into this work every day.
For the people who trust me with their stories, their bodies, their emotional worlds.
For every beautiful soul who crosses my path and allows this “work" to unfold in the most meaningful, human way.
Thank you for being part of this journey - truly.
I am grateful for where I’ve come from, for the loving souls who’ve held me along the way, where I am, and everything still opening ahead...

Isn’t it interesting to observe how the silly season convinces us we’re fine?
We keep saying things like, “I’m okay… it’s just busy,” meanwhile our bodies are quietly scraping the bottom of the tank!

Your body always knows the truth - even when your mind is still pushing forward.
So if you’re feeling a bit scattered, tense, emotional, irritated, or just… not quite yourself, it’s SO not because you’re failing.
It’s because your system is tired.
These aren’t flaws...
They’re actually welcomed signals...
Your body is merely begging for a moment, a breath, a pause and a reset 💫

Alignment helps you drop back into yourself again - to feel what you actually need, instead of overriding it (like we’re all so very good at doing this time of year 😆).
Alignment is not indulgence...
It’s self-preservation! Self love, and goes without saying - necessary.
