It takes at least approximately 6 months for all the swelling to subside and the final result to become apparent. Liposuction has superb results and an incredibly high patient satisfaction rate.

Post operatively Liposuction patients are required to wear a support garment for approximately 6 weeks. This helps minimise swelling and bruising, and helps maintain the aesthetic result.

Yes, they are not the most flattering garments but when you consider the surgery and your desired outcome the garment is a small sacrifice.

After your liposuction, light exercise is encouraged but strenuous exercise should not be resumed for at least 4 weeks.

Physical activity should be restricted for the first 24 hours post operatively for all Liposuction cases. Just because the pain medication will have you feeling well does not mean you should be up and about.

Take the time and rest, you and the result will benefit from it.

If you are undergoing large volume liposuction, it may be recommended that you be hospitalised for the night.

It is important to realize that the amount of time it takes for recovery varies greatly among individuals and larger volume liposuctions mean extended recovery times.

Liposuction surgery is usually performed as a day case. If this is the case, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery and to stay with you for the next 24 hours.

You will be uncomfortable for the first few days. Pain medication will keep you pain free but having help around the house is highly recommended.

If you are a smoker, I highly recommended that you stop smoking well in advance of surgery since smoking can impair the healing process after liposuction.

Liposuction already has a long recovery period and smoking simply adds risk and extends healing.

The risks in most surgeries are similar. Some of the potential complications that may be discussed with you include hematoma (an accumulation of blood under the skin that may require removal), infection, changes in sensation, scarring, allergic reactions, damage to underlying structures, need for revisions.

Fortunately, significant complications from liposuction surgery are infrequent. Liposuction surgery is one of the two most common procedures performed by plastic surgeons.

Most often this surgery is performed without experiencing any major problem.

That said you are more than welcome to ask any questions or cover any areas of concern during the consultation process.
