Thula Baby Centre was opened in 2005 and Heather Wood has been the Clinic Sister since it was started. Our team is made up of Heather Wood (Registered Nurse, Midwife and Lactation Consultant) and Natanya Palay (Registered Nurse and Midwife). Thula Baby Centre is a private well baby clinic, offering antenatal classes, lactation support in the clinic, in hospital, as well as after discharge from hospital, and care of the newborn baby, mum and dad. We weigh and measure our babies on a regular basis and teach new parents how to care for their new babies. We teach them skills for settling them when they fuss and empower them and educate them with knowledge and skills to parent with confidence. Vaccinations are given, according to the South African EPI (recommended vaccine schedule) using the excellent Government vaccines, as well as private vaccines not available through the state programme. Dads and partners are included and encouraged to come to clinic visits, and other pertinent issues like expressing, back to work, sleeping trouble, routine and starting solids are covered in consultations. We run by appointment only which can be booked on our online booking system or over the phone. Breastfeeding issues are prioritised and are always managed to be addressed, despite us looking fully booked.
