Due to popular demand after the last Cape Town Midwifery and Birth Conference, we will be holding a repeat 'Sexual Abuse Triggers in Pregnancy, Labour and Childbirth' workshop in Cape Town on the 12th of September.

It is a full day workshop and will be very intensive but worth it.

Open to all who are interested.

Following the devastating fire that has engulfed the Garden Route, WOMBS Doulas are doing a collection of items specifically focused on catering towards the smallest victims of this disaster - newborns and their mothers.

Regardless of this disaster there are women having babies in the midst of all the chaos, and basic supplies a new mother would need to care for her baby are in short supply. With Knysna Provincial Hospital being evacuated the need is especially great.

WOMBS Doulas in Cape Town are collecting the following items to be sent to Knysna to assist with the relief effort:

FOR BABIES : Baby Blankets, vests, babygros, socks, hats, jerseys, soaps, wipes, nappies, small toy / rattle, vaseline/bum cream, powder

FOR MOTHERS : Sanitary pads, moisturiser, breast pads, ni**le cream, snacks (energy bar, chocolate, nuts and raisins)

BAGS: Fabric / reusable shopping bags to put all items into

Please email sarah.meder@gmail.com for drop off points (or to arrange a collection)

DONATE MONEY and we will buy items on your behalf. All funds received will be used towards the purchase of items for new mother and baby packs.

... Nomzamo Mlungu hails from the township of Mdantsane in East London. She currently resides in Cape Town and has spent most of her working years in Johannesburg. She holds three degrees from University of Cape Town with the most recent being an MBA degree in 2014. She is a qualified Quantity Surveyor and has diverse experience in construction; public sector and property development. Her passion is sharing her knowledge with others which has seen her taking on mentorship and teaching roles. In 2016 she started writing and contributing on an online platform targeted at Construction professionals with the aim of sharing her insights from her experiences. She has a keen interest in contributing to the developmental challenges the country faces with a particular focus on housing where she has undertaken research. She is a mother to three children having commenced her journey into motherhood nine years ago at the age of 25 with two of her children born exactly a year apart. With her recent pregnancy, she delved into the unfamiliar territory of being under the care of a natural midwife and eventually giving birth in a public maternity hospital which significantly broadened her knowledge on the subject. http://ow.ly/OIsP309IVLI

We dedicate the 2017 conference to Nathaniel Canter whose mother Jane shared her beautiful and empowering birth story at the last Midwifery and Birth Conference.

Sadly, Nathaniel drowned at the end of 2016. It is with much sadness that we remember and dedicate the 2017 conference to this little shining light of a boy.

‘May the longtime sun

Shine upon you

All love surround you

and the pure light

Within you

Guide your way on’
