Therapy for Children

Therapy for Children Dr Jana Lazarus is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HPCSA. She studied at UCT, the Tavist Sessions are once weekly. Thereafter I see your child alone.

South Peninsula Mums, Dads and others - Hello, I am a Clinical Psychologist offering therapy for children of all ages in a beautiful room in Kalk Bay Main Road, on Saturdays. I work as part of the hugely successful Change Matters practice. For young children, the first session is an information-gathering interview with the parent/s. The last session comprises feedback to parents. Play therapy is indicated for smaller children. A course of therapy is usually between 5 and 10 sessions. I am contracted in to Medical Aid and will claim on your behalf. I see children of all ages, including teens and the very young. Request my article How does play therapy work? at shamballahplaytherapy@gmail.com or mail me for an appointment.

Parenting grows us braver as we practice feeling and being safer.

Safer in myself. Secure in my discernment. Safer in my relationships. Secure in my imperfection.

No longer ashamed, I grew comfortable in my vulnerability and autonomy. It felt brave to seek answers that resonated with my heart and benefited my children.

Parenthood is a soul searching, heartbreaking, mind-blowing, ego shaking, body stretching experience. And yet, it is the ultimate soul-enriching, heart fulfilling, mind-opening, character building, body-transforming miracle.

It is 23 years ago that I became a Parent for the first time. I was devoted but disciplinary techniques left me daunted. I wanted to lead by example irrespective of my emotions or my children’s. I wanted to learn how to love and lead without doing harm. Traditional parenting does not model coregulation or emotional intelligence.

Parenting a first-born child is something everyone experiences for the first time and needs to grow in. Sometimes it feels like it's working until it isn't. We are always experiencing something new. Winds of change require that we learn to adjust our sails.

Of course, our children are the greatest inspiration and motivation for our self-improvement. Through education and self-nurturing we find our way back to trusting our instincts.

Do you feel yourself growing? If not, I invite you to write down a list of all you do to nurture your child and yourself each day. How do you nurture your bodies? Your minds? Your hearts? Your souls? Your relationships? Return to your list once a month to add to it and celebrate the nurturer that you truly are.

Being human is an ongoing process.

Why? Because love echoes. The symptom of love is love, it cannot be disconnection. It cannot be ego. It cannot be toxicity. It cannot be trauma filled. The symptom of unconditional love for ourselves is unconditional love.
