Hoping for this collaboration across SA, for better outcomes, less forced and unnecesary c- sections
๐โจ Continuing to Learn, Advocate & Evolve โจ๐
This week I had the privilege of attending the International Federation of Gyanecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) session on Enhancing the Best Practices of Labour and Reducing Unnecessary Caesarean Sections.
Itโs inspiring to be part of a global conversation focused on returning birth to its roots โ supporting womenโs autonomy, reducing the over-medicalisation of labour, and ensuring caesarean sections are used only when truly needed.
One of my greatest influences has been learning from midwives and seeing how deeply their approach protects the natural process of birth while keeping safety and compassion at the centre. These sessions reaffirm the importance of collaboration โ obstetricians and midwives working hand-in-hand to create safe, empowering birth experiences.
The heart of it all? Every birth is unique. The goal is not โnormal birthโ but safe birth โ safe for mother, safe for baby, and respectful of each familyโs journey. ๐
