Alcohol is the only drug on Earth that you have to justify not taking’
The glorification of alcohol is a weird one to me now; the morning-after-the-night-before de-brief about who got the drunkest, or the agonising analysation of who made the biggest t**t out of themselves, or the painfully raucous laughter about the poor soul who ended up in a heap on the floor, or projectile vomiting, or snogging someone else’s husband .. again .. so alien, and sad, and just plain wrong.
But for years it all seemed so normal ... the height of hedonistic youth and beyond .. until it all, unceremoniously, came crashing down.
For the record, it is not impressive to lose the power of speech, or to render your brain incapable of making memories. It is not impressive to waste days/weeks/months under the duvet, or to live a half-life wishing you were someone/somewhere/something else.
It IS impressive to say NO, to turn your back on something that stunts your full potential and to grab your life with both hands and bloody live it!
It IS impressive to religiously maintain your cool, to look after your precious body and to know that, hopefully, you will never be the one on the floor again 🖤
