New Record Set: 24 Adaptive surfers on one Wave - 3 December 2023 - Roxy Davis Foundation

On Sunday the 3rd of December 2023 the world celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

At Surfers Corner, Muizenberg better surf conditions could not have been asked for by the team at the Roxy Davis Foundation. A light westerly held the waves, and warm, clear waters welcomed more than 100 volunteers who were needed on and in the water to assist surfers with disabilities set a new record for the most adaptive surfers on one wave.

"The wave with the most number of adaptive surfers on it was 24; at present, this is an unofficial record that the Foundation hopes to make official and is planning to submit it to the Guinness World Records, symbolising our collective dedication to pushing boundaries and making waves in the world of inclusivity and community." - Roxy Davis (Founder and Director)

The Wave Challenge Surf Therapy Fundraiser is the initiative behind this inaugural event - we are raising funds to cover the costs for 30 new surfers with disabilities to each receive 6 Surf Therapy sessions in 2024.

We are very excited to announce that Lawrence Soya has joined Altitude Facilities Management as the Health & Safety QMS Officer Mr Soya comes with a portfolio entrenched with a wealth of experience in SHE and OSHAC matters, has 15-year experience in different industries ranging from mining, municipalities to manufacturing companies. A very knowledgeable professional in ISO 9001, 45001:2018, 14001:2015, legal liability for mining and safety, SAMTRAC and Construction Regulations etc. Mr. Soya started his career in Health and Safety because he saw the importance of the safety of workers in the workplace, this still drives him and is currently still busy studying to ensure he stays abreast with legislation and is able to provide up to date information in Health and Safety / QMS. In Lawrence words; “there’s no compromise in health and safety, as companies and people’s lives depend on it”
