Myth: Only older people need orthotics.

Truth: Orthotics support all ages, from toddlers learning to walk, to athletes preventing injury, to adults recovering from trauma or surgery.

We treat children with developmental or neurological conditions, teens with sports injuries, and adults managing chronic pain or postural challenges.

As you can see, Patella Dislocation doesn't discriminate against age.

Your age doesn’t define your need, your function does.

Myth: “I can just Google a brace for my pain and fix it myself"

Truth: Googling a solution or trusting a generic online recommendation might sound easy, but everybody, injury, and diagnosis is different.

For example, Google might say “just wear a back brace for sciatica”, but the wrong brace can shift pressure to the wrong areas, cause muscle weakness, or even worsen your pain.

An Orthotist looks deeper: we assess the cause, not just the symptom.
Instead of a random back brace, we might recommend a specialized Exos SI Belt, designed to stabilize your sacroiliac joint, directly treating the source of your sciatica, not just masking it.

Because Google gives you information. Orthotists give you solutions.

Myth: Orthotists only sell prefabricated devices.

Truth: Whether you’re living with a hernia, a stoma bag, or recovering from a lumbar fracture, your brace should be as unique as you are and designed to fit you, not the shelf.

As you can see above, we have taken a supportive back brace and adjusted it to also suit a Stoma bag and support a hernia.

Because orthotics isn’t about selling products, it’s about improving your quality of life.

Lateral leg raises strengthen the Glute Minimus which increase hip and knee stability. Weakness cause Trendelenburg gait which, for amputees, mean walking with a pelvic drop which waste energy while walking and cause lower back pain in the long run. shows how lateral leg raises can be done in both the amputated and sound side.

Improved pelvic muscle stability prevent walking with a "waddle" and won't make your muscles as tired when walking with your prosthesis! Using a resistance band to work on these muscles while seated makes working on your gait easy and possible even if your balance is not very good.

Modifications = Better wound healing

Modifications are crucial in the fight against diabetic ulcers as this patient will experience after being fitted with a Diabetic Offloading shoe with no modifications done to the sole.

The soft total contact sole is ideal to help soften the surface of the foot while walking but with time, these structures collapse and reveals where the peak pressure points are located and why the wound doesn't heal as well as it should.

Modifications allow us to prevent the collapse of the structures under the diabetic ulcer and promote proper wound healing from the beginning.
An easy loose inner is manufactured and inserted under the soft layer to allow it to still stay soft but now has added strength underneath to support around the wound to allow proper wound healing.

The SBi Motus Boot is designed to help heal difficult diabetic foot ulcers and support the foot when diagnosed with Charcot's foot.

By keeping the foot in a stable position along with a fully rocking sole, the SBi Motus boot provides a total contact surface for the foot to rest on, reducing the pressures causing the wounds to progress.

An Even-up is crucial to help level out the leg length discrepancy created by the rocking sole and prevent lower back pain due to the one leg being longer than the other. It straps onto the bottom of the other shoe quick and easy to allow seamless transition from shoe to shoe.
