Don’t wait for the accident to happen before you take action
A near miss is a free lesson. It is a gift that shows you exactly where your safety system is leaning toward a breaking point. However, if your team fears being blamed or disciplined for reporting these incidents, they will simply stop sharing them.
To empower your staff, shift the focus from who made the mistake to what allowed the mistake to happen. When people feel safe to speak up, they become your most effective eyes and ears on the ground.
Consider implementing a digital reporting interface or a dedicated Safety Suggestion Box to keep the process simple and accessible.
Does your team feel safe enough to report a near miss before it becomes an accident?
