World Glaucoma Week runs from 8–14 March, with World Glaucoma Day on 12 March. This global initiative highlights one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness.
Glaucoma is known as the “silent thief of sight” because it often shows no early symptoms. Up to 50% of people with glaucoma don’t know they have it, and once vision is lost, it can’t be restored. But early detection can prevent up to 90% of vision loss, making regular eye screenings essential.
Key facts:
Over 80 million people worldwide are affected.
Risk increases after 40.
Family history, diabetes, high eye pressure, and severe short-sightedness raise your risk.
Only routine eye exams can detect glaucoma early.

This week, prioritise your eye health and encourage loved ones to get screened. Glaucoma can be managed - but only if it’s detected in time.
