Where i escape to when my patients break brackets 🫣
🦷 How to Avoid Breaking Your Orthodontic Brackets
1. Avoid hard foods
Ice, nuts, hard sweets, popcorn kernels — they can snap brackets instantly.
2. Skip sticky foods
Gum, caramels, toffees, jelly sweets can pull brackets off.
3. Cut foods into small pieces
Bite with your back teeth, not your front teeth, especially for apples, carrots, and rolls.
4. Don’t chew on non-foods
Pens, nails, bottle caps — all major bracket breakers.
5. Be gentle with crunchy snacks
Chips and crackers should be eaten slowly with small bites.
6. Wear your mouthguard for sports
Any impact can dislodge brackets or bend wires.
7. Avoid opening packages with your teeth
It’s a common cause of popped-off brackets.
8. Keep wires clean and free of plaque
Good oral hygiene prevents irritation and loosening of components.
9. Report loose brackets early
Don’t wait weeks—early fixing prevents further damage.
10. Follow your orthodontist’s dietary and care instructions
Consistency = smooth treatment + fewer emergencies.
