This workshop is for anyone who is a single parent, or going through a divorce or separation, and is battling with calculating child maintenance or claiming child maintenance. Finances are an emotive topic, and often one where power plays itself out. With 13 million children in South Africa growing up in single homes, paying maintenance correctly is vital for their upbringing. This workshop will cover the various topics of child maintenance as well as practical worksheets given and help for case specific calculations: -How to correctly calculate maintenance for your child/ren
-How to get a maintenance agreement made a court order and why
-How to apply at maintenance court for an order
-How to apply at maintenance court for arrears
-The Maintenance Act
-The difference between care and contact
-Consequences for maintenance defaulters
– the civil or criminal route

The workshop will be facilitated by Nina Mensing, a counsellor, accredited FAMAC mediator and author of the book “A Manic Marriage”. Nina works in private practice, as well as at the Cape Town Children’s Court. She is an administrator of the group Child Maintenance Difficulties in South Africa, a social justice group helping parents to navigate the maintenance court system. Nina also has personal experience of divorce and the various court processes as a single mother with two boys.
