TB Awareness roadshow tackles the psychology of being sick

The Tuberculosis awareness roadshow is increasing the tempo as it delves into the topic of the psychological impact of being sick on staff members. The team comprising of Masakhane Clinic, Infection Prevention and Control, Occupational Health and Safety members addressed administrative staff on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

Clinical psychologist Thuli Mdluli said that often people put more focus on the medical symptoms and complying with the treatment and often forget about the emotional impact of being sick. Mdluli drew a picture of a patient who has to deal with accepting that they are ill, they also have to deal with the issue of isolation that make them feel unwanted - all of which has a psychological impact on the patient. She advised staff members to seek psychological assistance as part of the healing process.

Tembisa Hospital celebrates World Social Work Day

The Tembisa Hospital social work unit celebrated social work day on 17 March 2026 under the theme “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society.” The theme emphasizes the important role social work plays in bringing people together across communities, cultures and systems to help create a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Social workers do many important jobs. They help children stay safe, support adults who need care, and help people who are struggling with mental health, homelessness or abuse. Their work makes a real difference in people’s lives every day.

The theme for 2026 reminds us that many problems in society, like inequality, conflict and division, cannot be solved alone. Social workers help bring people together, rebuild trust, and make positive changes in communities.
