Rainy / floody day… 🌧️☔️

We have had very very heavy rains for a few days in a row. Roads have been closed. Rivers have risen. Damage has been reported.

The three of us are working from home this morning, all busy with editing of video and photo footage to share and use for later mission projects.

This is such a common misconception.
When people ask for “what can I do naturally”, others are quick to assume that the act of refusing pharmacological treatment, is equivalent to doing nothing.

This is NOT consistent with Lifestyle Medicine.

On the contrary - lifestyle treatments and natural remedies require more work than taking prescription medications.
It is harder to do. And it takes more commitment.

However - the rewards are phenomenal! 😃

As a lifestyle medicine doctor, I can testify to seeing far better results in our patients who take the bull by the horns and implement lifestyle medicine prescriptions.

Good day, friends 🌿

Today I’m answering one of the most common questions we receive — and one that always excites me!

❓ Why do I lose so much weight in such a short time when I fully switch to whole plant foods and eliminate all junk food? ⚖️

Many of our patients lose noticeable weight within the first few weeks. I personally lost a lot of weight quickly years ago, and my husband Adrian lost 8 kg in just 2 weeks — and he wasn’t even overweight! 😲

Naturally, doctors, family, and friends sometimes get worried when they hear this. But here’s what few people realize:
👉 The biggest part of the initial weight loss is usually water 💧

Inflammation causes swelling. When someone:
• eliminates all processed foods
• removes animal products
• avoids sugar
• reduces chemical toxins in their environment

… the body finally gets a chance to heal.

Years of built-up swelling begin to subside — in the abdomen, liver, face, arms, and legs. As inflammation decreases, the body releases excess water 🚽 It may look dramatic on the scale, but it’s a recovery process, not a crisis.

There is also a second phase ⚡

Your cells need to learn to get energy from nutrient-dense, natural sources instead of quick energy from sugar, oils, and refined carbohydrates. This adjustment takes a few weeks — not months or years.

Important 👇
The weight does not keep dropping endlessly.

It stabilizes when:
• your body eats in a balanced way
• you consume enough
• you become accustomed to the new tastes and meals

Many people initially eat less because everything feels new — but this normalizes quickly.

So, is rapid initial weight loss a concern?
👉 No.
👉 Should it continue without stopping? Also no.

In more than 90% of cases, weight stabilizes beautifully at a healthy goal weight when the body is properly nourished.

A practical perspective 🎒

Pack 10 kg into a backpack and carry it around for a day. Only then do you truly realize how heavy that extra weight was — and how much relief your body experiences once it’s gone.

Every step in a healthy direction is a victory 🌿

Absolutely everything that comes into contact with your senses, is taken into your body.
It is well worth eliminating things that are toxic, and avoiding these as often as you possibly can.

Yes, we cannot stop breathing, and there is pollution in the air.
But what we can control, we should control. The Bible instructs us that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit, and is not our own (1 Cor 6:19,20) to do with just as we please, destrying it as we feel like (Cor 3:16,17). Why not take a determined decision to keep your body in the best possible condition?

So here we are… in the middle of the vaaaast ocean 🌊🏝️🐋
It’s just after 05am in the morning in Fiji !!!

The ✈️ flight was veeeeery long, and yes—after 18, 19, 22, 30 hours of flying, one’s backside feels completely numb!! But the tips I shared yesterday, were put to good use, and really did help!

The last 5-hour flight from Sydney to Fiji was very empty, so with much gratitude we each took a 3seat row and lay flat to catch some sleep—but that flight was so cold we thought we were going to freeze!

That was probably our last time being cold for a very long while, because… when we stepped out of the air-conditioning of the plane and the airport… 😱🤯🥵☀️
31 degrees Celsius isn’t _that_ bad, but the 95% or more humidity really hits hard, and this heat feels like it closes in on you and suffocates you, like a hot blanket pulled over your head.

To keep a long story short, we are hot but safe!! 😊😀
The streets are truly woven between greener-than-green trees—🍌 banana trees, 🥥🌴 coconut palms, 🥭 mango trees, and hundreds of other green plants.

Above and beyond the beautiful green surroundings, the Lord has provided for each of our needs. We even have our own little place, with our own kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms. We rested well for the night, and truly could not have asked for better, so we are eternally grateful, and we know we can trust Him for the four months that lie ahead 🤍

Harsh words? 🤔❓

At first glance, it may appear that these words are somewhat too strong… but God is a longsuffering and merciful God. So what is the key word?

Recklessness… When we willfully continue unhealthful habits and damaging lifestyle choices, then what are we really asking God to do? Are we asking Him to help us recover so that we can continue destroying our bodies?

If we truly repent and commit to doing what we know is best to “eat, drink and do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor 10:31), and to uphold God’s request to treat our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit… then we are able to receive the precious gift of healing with gratitude, and prospects of better health in the future.

The question remains: am I prepared to set aside my own likes, dislikes, and harmful habits, and fully surrender all to my loving Creator and Saviour?

Today I was reminded of how many people are over-stimulating their entire nervous system (brain + nerves), while seeking to “switch off” and “take a break”.

The result: 🚨 BURNOUT 🚨
Over-stimulating nerves physiologically damages them, changes their structure, and leaves us feeling even
- more tired
- ⁠more drained
- ⁠more desperate
- ⁠more anxious
- ⁠more depressed
- ⁠and more empty!

There is only one true source of peace, and that source is not on social media, movies, series, scrolling, shorts, caffeine, smoking, va**ng, alcohol, spending, po*******hy, drugs, pills, or any other platform.
