💯 %. Perfectly written.
Runners strength training should be designed for building endurance. It is not body building. There is a distinct difference between the two.

If you are needing help with a runners specific strength program… especially after injury, contact us on 0828203223.

Let’s break down the difference between a “fitness body” and a “runner’s body,” and this image shows it perfectly. On the left, we see a woman in a gym environment. She’s strong, toned, and defined.

Her training likely includes resistance exercises, hypertrophy sessions, and maybe some HIIT. This body reflects a focus on muscle growth: sculpted arms, a firm core, and glutes shaped by squats and deadlifts.

On the right, the same woman appears on a track, wearing short shorts and racing shoes. Her physique looks different: leaner, more vascular, and sinewy. This is the result of high mileage, interval sessions, tempo runs, and countless calories burned through aerobic activity. Her body has transitioned from building muscle to burning fuel efficiently.
Both physiques are impressive and healthy, but they are shaped by different goals, training stresses, and nutritional strategies.

You can’t train like a bodybuilder and expect to run like a distance athlete while keeping the same body composition. Your training should align with your goals.

Are you chasing speed and endurance, or strength and aesthetics? Neither is superior, but each path sculpts your body in its own unique way.

And remember, these changes don’t happen instantly. They come from consistent effort and a deliberate shift in training focus.

Great article ! ….. very comprehensive and factual.
Agreed with everything but not 100% on board with rotating between different types of shoes in training. This is still up for debate. 😂😂

Perfectly written! 👌🏻

When it comes to running long, whether that’s 42.2km or 90km+, runners often wonder if their form is “good enough” or if they should try to “fix” it.

You’ve probably watched elite athletes glide across the road with effortless grace and thought, Should I try to run like that?

It’s a fair question. But before you start adjusting your arm swing, stride length, or foot strike, let’s dig into the science and the philosophy of form:
