This is probably the reason that your child has learned songs, ABCs, counting etc before spoken conversation - because the song or TV show was engaging. We also want them to learn the meaning of other words that they can actually use to communicate, so we have to facilitate it in a way that's just as engaging.
Children learn how to communicate when we engage them in back-and-forth. Although the screen time might be helping them to learn words, they need to learn how to use those words socially!
