💜JMH City Hospital Celebrates World Prematurity Day 💜

JMH City Hospital came alive with love, hope, and togetherness as they honoured the strength and resilience of premature babies and their families.

A touching candle ceremony lit up the room, each flame a beacon of love, light, and support for the tiny lives that have touched our hearts.

Mum Christina Chetty shared her inspiring NICU journey, from delivering her baby girl at just 29 weeks and 970 grams, through sleepless nights and uncertainty, to celebrating her beautiful, thriving 1-year-old today. Her story reminded us all of the power of hope and resilience.

Our neonatal nurses reflected on how these little warriors, though small in size, leave an immeasurable impact teaching us daily what it truly means to be strong.

It was a day of shared stories, education, and heartfelt connection. A day that made a difference. Together, we celebrated life, resilience, and the incredible journey of our tiniest heroes.

💜 World Prematurity Day at JMH Isipingo Hospital 💜

On 21 November 2025, joy filled the halls of JMH Isipingo Hospital as families, nurses, and staff came together to celebrate the incredible strength of our tiniest warriors. Dressed in purple, our neonatal team welcomed parents and their precious babies with love and pride.

This year’s theme: “Give Babies a Strong Start for a Hopeful Future” reminded us all of the importance of early screening, timely care, and the power of breastmilk and specialized neonatal support.

Mrs. Luthuli, a proud mom of a preemie born at just 28 weeks, shared her emotional journey. Tears of joy flowed as she spoke of resilience, hope, and the lifelong bond formed with our NICU team.

Parents were honoured as true WARRIORS by Ms. Lovie Shabalala, while Lancet Laboratory added smiles with gifts and guidance.

Songs of praise, hope, and blessings filled the air, making it a day of gratitude for parents who trust us, for staff who give their all, and for sponsors who made this celebration possible.

Together, we stand for every baby born too soon. Together, we celebrate life, resilience, and hope.

💜 JMH Durdoc Hospital Celebrates World Prematurity Day 💜

A heartwarming, informative and fun day was planned with staff, parents and our little champions of NICU who came together to honour the strength, resilience, and joy of families with premature babies.

The proceedings were opened by Sr Christine Pearce by sharing the day’s objectives and reminding us why this celebration matters.

👩‍⚕️ Specialist Paediatrician Dr. Erika Thompson encouraged parents to use social media mindfully, reminding us that not everything online is true and that protecting our children from misinformation is vital.

👩‍👦 A touching story was shared by a parent and her story of raising a premature baby, sharing both the challenges and the beautiful, joyful moments that come with their journey.

🗣️ Speech therapist Noluthando Mdluli guided parents through milestones to watch for in their children’s growth, answering questions and offering reassurance.

Parents received goodie bags and certificates marking their child’s incredible progress, from birth weight to their current achievements. The JMH Durdoc Hospital NICU team brought smiles all around by dancing with parents and even joining in with the little ones, celebrating life, love, and hope.

🌍 World AIDS Day 2025 🌍

Today we unite under the theme: “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response”.

HIV remains a global health challenge, but decades of progress show that prevention, treatment, and compassion save lives.

Millions worldwide live with HIV, and millions more have lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses.

Stigma and misinformation still fuel fear and discrimination.

📊 Key facts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) state:

- HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) attacks the immune system, while AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is the most advanced stage of infection.
- Consistent access to testing, treatment, and prevention tools can stop transmission and help end AIDS by 2030.
- Communities and health systems must stay resilient despite disruptions in funding and services.

💡 Knowledge is power:

- Prevention works: safe practices, regular testing, and access to treatment protect individuals and communities.
- Education breaks myths: HIV ≠ AIDS, and people living with HIV can thrive with proper care.
- Ending stigma means standing in solidarity, respecting human rights, and supporting those affected.

❤️ Together, we can transform the response and end AIDS.

JMH Isipingo Hospital recently joined the global campaign for World Antimicrobial Awareness Week with an engaging and educational in-house event focused on promoting responsible antimicrobial use.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR), encourage healthier habits among staff and patients and highlight the vital role healthcare workers play in preventing the misuse of antibiotics.

Activities on the day included:
- Interactive educational stations explaining the difference between antibiotics and other antimicrobials, and why completing prescribed courses is essential.
- Fun awareness games and quizzes that helped reinforce key messages while keeping the atmosphere lively.

The event was well received with staff actively participating, asking questions and showing great interest in how they can make a positive impact in combating antimicrobial resistance.
