It’s World Kindness Day today 💙

Let’s take this week to celebrate kindness and to look at how we can show it, not just to others, but to ourselves too.

Kindness might look like checking in on a loved one who says “what?” a little too often.
It might be helping someone make that first hearing appointment.

Or it might simply mean being kind to yourself by taking care of your hearing, managing your stress, and giving your body the attention it deserves.

Kindness starts with listening to others, and to yourself. 👂

People living with diabetes are twice as likely to experience hearing loss. 👂💙

Those with pre-diabetes have up to a 30% higher rate of hearing loss compared to people without diabetes.

High blood sugar can damage the tiny blood vessels and nerves inside your ears, the same way it can affect your eyes or kidneys.
That means managing your blood sugar and monitoring your hearing are both key parts of protecting your long-term health.

If you have diabetes or pre-diabetes, make hearing checks part of your yearly routine.
If you have never had one, now is the time. If you have, this is your reminder to book your next one.

🎥 We’ll be sharing more later this month from Kara about how diabetes can affect your hearing and why early testing matters.

It’s Stress Awareness Day – a reminder to pause, breathe, and notice how stress shows up in your body.

Sometimes it’s not just in your head. It’s in your neck, your shoulders, and even your ears.
When we’re tense, blood flow and oxygen to the brain and inner ear can drop, which can cause dizziness, ringing, or make it harder to process sound.

Many patients notice their symptoms flare up when they’re stressed, especially in high-pressure moments like driving.
So today, take a few deep breaths, drop your shoulders, and give your body (and your ears) a moment to reset.

👂 Listen to what your body is telling you.

So if we shouldn’t use earbuds... how do we clean our ears? 🤔

Here’s the truth:
👂 Your ears are self-cleaning! Earwax (cerumen) naturally moves outward, trapping dust and debris along the way.

🚫 Cotton buds actually push wax deeper, risking blockages or injury.

✅ Safe ways to keep ears clean:
– Use a warm, damp cloth around the outer ear.
– Ask your audiologist to check for wax buildup during routine visits.
– For stubborn wax, professional ear cleaning is quick, safe, and painless.

If you’ve been feeling blocked, itchy, or full in your ears, it’s best to get them checked — not poked.

Ever looked at an audiogram and thought, “What on earth does this chart mean?” 📈

An audiogram is a visual map of your hearing. It shows how well you hear at different pitches, from deep low rumbles to high bird chirps.
The dots on the chart represent the softest sounds you can hear; the lower the dots fall, the harder it is to pick up those sounds.

On your chart, red circles mark the right ear and blue crosses mark the left ear. That helps us see how each ear is performing and whether there’s a difference between them.

It’s not scary at all. In fact, it’s one of the simplest ways for us to understand your hearing and build a plan that helps you hear and connect better.

So if you’ve been turning up the TV, struggling to follow conversations, or asking people to repeat themselves, it’s time to get your hearing checked.

Because knowledge really is power, especially when it comes to your hearing health.

Noise is part of everyday life – but how much is too much?

Long exposure to anything over 85 decibels (about as loud as city traffic or a blender) can start to damage your hearing.

Here’s what that means:
🔊 If you have to raise your voice to talk to someone next to you, it’s too loud.
🔊 Regular exposure to loud environments – construction sites, busy restaurants, workshops, or even loud gym classes – can all take a toll over time.

The good news? A few simple habits can protect your hearing for years to come.

👂 Swipe through for easy daily and workplace hearing protection tips you can start using today.

Wishing everyone celebrating a Diwali filled with light, laughter, and beautiful sounds. ✨

As the skies sparkle with fireworks and celebration fills the air, here is a gentle reminder to keep your ears safe while enjoying the festivities.

💙 Use earplugs, especially for little ones.
💙 Keep pets indoors as their ears are extra sensitive.
💙 Take short listening breaks by stepping away from the loudest areas when you can.

Sound is part of our shared joy, but protecting our hearing helps ensure we can keep enjoying those happy moments for years to come.

From our Hoffman family to yours, happy Diwali. 💛

“Vertigo” isn’t one-size-fits-all; dizziness can feel very different for different people.

Here are the most common types:
🌀 Spinning: the room feels like it’s moving around you.
⚖️ Imbalance: you feel unsteady, like you can’t walk straight.
☁️ Lightheaded: a faint, woozy feeling, like you might pass out.
🌊 Floating: you feel like you’re swaying or drifting on water.

Each type can have different causes, and often your inner ear plays a big role.
If dizziness is interfering with daily life, don’t brush it off. A hearing and balance check can help uncover what’s really going on.

Hearing loss doesn’t happen all at once – it usually creeps in slowly, stage by stage. Here’s what that looks like:

1️⃣ Mild: You hear well in quiet, but miss words in noisy places.

2️⃣ Moderate: The TV keeps creeping louder and conversations become frustrating.

3️⃣ Severe: Even one-on-one chats can feel unclear or exhausting.

4️⃣ Profound: Sound becomes very limited without support.

The truth? You don’t have to wait until things feel difficult. The earlier you pick up on changes, the easier it is to protect your hearing and support your brain.

Book your hearing test today – your future self will thank you.
