World AIDS Day – Clermont Clinic

As part of World AIDS Day, ECF and Clermont Clinic are committed to strengthening awareness about HIV, promoting prevention, and supporting effective treatment and adherence. Our focus includes empowering the community with accurate information on HIV transmission, encouraging regular testing, and promoting proven prevention methods such as condom use, PrEP, PEP and safe sexual practices.

We continue to support individuals living with HIV through access to timely treatment, viral load monitoring, and adherence counselling. This aligns with the global 95–95–95 strategy, which aims for:

95% of all people living with HIV to know their status,

95% of those diagnosed to be on sustained antiretroviral therapy,and

95% of those on treatment to achieve viral suppression.

Through collaboration, community engagement, and quality healthcare services, ECF and Clermont remain dedicated to reducing new infections, improving health outcomes, and working towards an HIV-free generation.

Today, we shine a spotlight on the incredible team at our ECF Clinical Research Site based at Victoria Mxenge Hospital! This site is a hub of innovation and dedication, with a special focus on advancing healthcare for pediatric populations through clinical trials that make a real difference.

Behind every successful study is a committed team, and at Victoria Mxenge, we are proud to have a multidisciplinary group of professionals working hand-in-hand to deliver world-class research. From our skilled doctors, compassionate nurses, and meticulous pharmacy and data teams, to our essential QA/QC, phlebotomy, admin, cleaning, and driving staff – every role is vital.

Special appreciation also goes out to our recruitment and retention team, and counselors who work tirelessly to support our young participants and their families throughout their research journey.

Today, on World Clinical Trials Day, we honor the dedicated team at Enhancing Care Foundation’s Clinical Research Site (CRS) at Wentworth Hospital in Durban. This multidisciplinary team plays a pivotal role in advancing medical science and improving patient care.

A Unified Team Committed to Excellence

At the heart of clinical research is collaboration. From nurses and doctors to pharmacists, data specialists, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) officers, administrators, drivers, and cleaners, each member contributes uniquely to the success of clinical trials. Nurses & Doctors: They are the frontline, providing compassionate care and ensuring participant safety throughout the trial process.

Today, we join the global community in commemorating International Clinical Trials Day under the theme "Rethinking Clinical Trials: Inclusivity in Practice". This day honors the pioneering work of James Lind, who conducted the first clinical trial on May 20, 1747, laying the foundation for modern clinical research .

At Enhancing Care Foundation (ECF), we are committed to advancing health and well-being through rigorous research and development, with a focus on HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Our collaborative efforts with national and international partners aim to strengthen health systems, build capacity, and conduct impactful clinical trials that reflect the diverse populations we serve .

As we reflect on the progress made, we also recognize the importance of inclusivity in clinical research. Ensuring diverse representation in trials is crucial for developing treatments that are effective across all communities. World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, observed annually on March 24th, aims to raise awareness about the global impact of TB, promote efforts to eliminate the disease, and support the World Health Organization’s (WHO) End TB Strategy. This year, four prominent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) collaborated to organize a wide-reaching outreach program focused on TB education, prevention, and treatment.
