🌍💙 World Diabetes Day: Protect Your Vision, Protect Your Future
Today, on World Diabetes Day, it’s important to remember that diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar—it can also have a major impact on your eyesight.
👁️ How Diabetes Affects Your Eyes
High blood sugar levels over time can damage the tiny blood vessels in the eyes. This can lead to several eye conditions, including:
🔹 Diabetic Retinopathy – Damage to the retina’s blood vessels, which can cause vision changes or even blindness if untreated.
🔹 Diabetic Macular Edema – Swelling in the part of the retina responsible for sharp vision.
🔹 Cataracts – Clouding of the eye’s lens, which happens earlier and more rapidly in people with diabetes.
🔹 Glaucoma – Increased pressure in the eye that can damage the optic nerve.
💡 The Good News?
Many diabetes-related eye problems are preventable with early detection and good management.
💙 Protect Your Eyes:
✔ Keep your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol under control
✔ Get a complete dilated eye exam at least once a year
✔ Don’t ignore blurry vision, floaters, or sudden changes
✔ Maintain a healthy lifestyle—exercise, balanced diet, and regular check-ups
Your vision is precious. On this World Diabetes Day, take a moment to protect your eyes and encourage others to do the same. 💙
