St Bernard's Hospice East London

St Bernard's Hospice East London Home Based Palliative Care & Support services to people diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. We strive for quality of live and continuity of care.

St Bernard’s Hospice provides palliative care (holistic care and support) to patients (adults and children) diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as Cancer, Motor Neuron Disease, Multiple Sclerosis ; HIV/AIDS, Multi Drug Resistant TB, etc., as well as emotional support and counselling, which extends into the bereavement period to their families. It is a home based care service where we visit patients in their homes to all the communities in East London. On average, we provide direct care and counselling to 400 patients per month in their homes. On admitting a patient to St Bernard’s Hospice’s, we adopt the whole family and therefore do not only take care of the patient, but the entire household. On average, each patient has five family members and therefore we reach approximately 2 000 people per month. This includes infected, affected and vulnerable children. Being a Non-Profit Organization, as well as that we do not turn patients away when they are in need of our care and do not have the financial means to contribute towards this care; we rely heavily on our own local fundraising efforts and due to our passion to provide a quality and sustainable service to our patients, we also participate physically in raising the necessary funds. Please support St Bernard's Hospice - it is your hospice, founded by yourselves in 1991. .....We thank you for your continues support with the most sincere gratitude.

🌟 Schools Coin & Copper Drive 2025 🌟

We are incredibly grateful to the 21 amazing East London schools that supported our 2025 Schools Coin and Copper Drive. Thanks to our young heroes, and the dedicated teachers and parents who cheer them on, more than small change was collected — hope was collected.

This year marks what would have been the 10th anniversary of our Schools Coin and Copper Drive, paused only in 2020 due to Covid. We are thrilled that our tenth physical campaign now aligns with our 35th birthday year in 2026, making this a celebration of both legacy and community.

We are especially humbled that 9 of the 21 participating schools have been with us since the very beginning. These deep-rooted partnerships have helped sustain our mission of providing compassionate home-based palliative care to families across East London.

To every school — long-standing partner or newly joined supporter — thank you for believing in this work. Your generosity has made a real and lasting impact.

✨ We look forward to a special and celebratory 2026 campaign.
✨ And we remain forever grateful for the difference you made in 2025.

At St Bernard’s, every coin counts, and it truly does not matter who gives the most. At the same time, we want to celebrate significant effort in a way that honours everyone’s contribution and keeps enthusiasm high for all participating schools.

With that spirit in mind, we would like to acknowledge the Top 10 Contributing Schools of 2025:

- Beaconhurst Primary School
- Cambridge Primary School
- Clarendon Primary School
- Gonubie Primary School
- Hudson Park High School
- Kidds Beach Primary School
- Lilyfontein School
- Selborne College
- St Joseph’s School
- Stirling Primary School

Thank you for showing that generosity starts young and that even the smallest coin can help create comfort, dignity and peace for those who need it most. 💛

It is with grateful hearts that we thank the East Coast Radiology Team, lead by the selfless Brenda, and all her selfless helpers and their respective organisations, who once again took on the Breast Cancer Awareness Hope Project, collecting 1 000 bra's that we could distribute amongst our St Bernard's beneficiaries.

Thank you for caring for your fellow ladies!

A heartfelt thank you to Marelie and Louis Fourie of WarmKaros os for so generously sponsoring our 2025 Staff Year-End Function 💛

Our team enjoyed a truly special morning together, sharing a delicious brunch at the beautiful WarmKaros Connect Conference Centre . It was a time to pause, connect, and celebrate the incredible impact achieved throughout 2025.

We also had the privilege of honouring our dedicated employees who have served more than 9 years, recognising their loyalty, commitment, and the difference they continue to make every day. We are thankful to our Chairperson, Mr Gordon Thompson, for joining us for this special part of the day.
