Today we reflect on Human Rights Day in South Africa 🇿🇦 — a day rooted in remembrance, but also in responsibility.

On 21 March 1960, during the Sharpeville massacre, many lost their lives standing up against injustice. Their courage laid the foundation for the freedoms we live with today.

Our Constitution’s Bill of Rights is more than a legal document — it is a promise. A promise of dignity, equality, and freedom for all. It protects our right to life, education, safety, expression, and so much more. But rights are not passive — they require awareness, respect, and action.

As we honour this day, we are reminded that human rights begin in everyday spaces: in how we treat one another, how we raise our children, how we show empathy, and how we stand up when something is not right.

Let’s not only remember — let’s live these rights, protect them, and pass them forward.

March: A Month to Reset Your Mental Health

March often feels like the year is officially “in motion.” The holidays are long gone, routines are settled, and the pressure to perform — at work, at home, in life — quietly builds.

This is your reminder: mental health does not take care of itself.

By March, many people are already carrying:
• Work stress and performance fatigue
• Parenting overwhelm
• Relationship strain
• Financial pressure
• Unprocessed emotions from the start of the year

Mental health is not just about crisis. It’s about maintenance. It’s about checking in before burnout happens.

Ask yourself:
• Am I sleeping well?
• Am I constantly irritable or exhausted?
• Do I feel emotionally disconnected?
• When last did I do something that restored me?

I caved in and did the picture!

I love what I do — and I don’t take it lightly.

Being a wellness counsellor means I get to walk alongside people in some of their most vulnerable moments. I get to listen without judgment, hold space with compassion, and help others make sense of their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences.

What I love most is seeing the shift — when someone starts believing in themselves again, sets healthier boundaries, finds clarity, or simply feels lighter than when they first walked in. Watching people grow, heal, and reconnect with their inner strength is incredibly rewarding.

Knowing that I can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, even in small ways, reminds me why I chose this path. This work is more than a job — it’s purpose-driven, heart-led, and deeply fulfilling.

Today we raise awareness, honour those we’ve lost, stand with survivors, and support everyone affected by cancer. Cancer impacts not only the body, but emotional wellbeing, families, and daily life.

Early detection, prevention, and compassionate support matter. Let’s continue to educate, encourage screenings, reduce stigma, and show kindness to those walking this journey.
