💛 “Oh no, my child fell and bumped their head… what now?”

Accidents happen quickly, and it’s normal to panic — but here’s what you need to know 👇

👀 1. First, stay calm & assess your child
A quick scan helps you decide if it’s minor or needs urgent care.
Look for:
✔ Crying immediately after the fall (this is a good sign)
✔ Alertness
✔ Normal behaviour

🧊 2. Treat a mild head bump at home
If the child is awake, behaving normally, and only has a small swelling:
🟢 Apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes
🟢Give paracetamol if they’re in pain (avoid ibuprofen initially if there’s swelling)
🟢Watch them closely for the next 24 hours

🚨 3. Go to the GP or ER immediately if you see:
These are red flags after a head injury:
🚩 Loss of consciousness (even brief)
🚩 Vomiting
🚩 Severe headache or increasing pain
🚩 Acting confused, drowsy, or “not themselves”
🚩 Seizures
🚩 Bleeding or clear fluid from the nose or ears
🚩 Large swelling on infants (especially under 1 year)
🚩 Fall from a height or high-impact injury

🌙 4. Can my child sleep afterwards?
⁉ Yes — if they have NO red flags.🚩
Just check on them periodically and ensure they wake up normally and behave as usual.

🧡 5. When to monitor longer
🧐 Kids under 2 years old need extra caution.
🧐 If unsure, rather let a doctor check them — trust your instinct.

❗️Infections of the bowel

⚕️ If you suffer from chronic constipation, IBS, or bloating, there are safer, evidence-based approaches your doctor can guide you through — from diet and hydration to proper medication and screening for underlying causes.

There’s no specific cure for RSV - care focuses on relieving symptoms while the body fights off the infection.

Hospital care may be needed if:
• Oxygen levels drop
• Feeding becomes difficult
• Severe breathing difficulties occur

Very rarely, babies may need intensive care and ventilation.

A note for families and friends:
We kindly ask that if you have a cold, flu symptoms, or even just a sniffle - please delay visiting newborns and small babies. It’s important to protect them from this highly contagious virus.
