I have told the story of Aladdin (left) and Jasmine many times but, for anyone who hasn’t heard it yet, I’ll tell it once again.
Jasmine and Aladdin met when they ended up in the kill pen - filled with horses to be shipped off to slaughter. The kill pen is a horrible place - horses are crammed together and terrified. Nobody cares about providing food, water or comfort because these horses are considered worthless. Poor Jasmine was also blind. Somehow, Aladdin sensed her quiet, terrified, helplessness and became her protector. At the last minute, they were miraculously rescued by ERN (Equine Rescue Network) who recognized their bond and kept them together at a foster home until they came to us.
Aladdin has one working eye and plenty of scars left from his years as a tripping horse (google it) and Jasmine is totally blind from uveitis and glaucoma. She also has some congenital dental disease that means she needs extra dental care. She has a scar on her face from where a tooth grew through her cheek before coming to us. Even though they’re both safe now, Aladdin remains completely devoted to Jasmine. They share a pasture with Nova (who is completely blind) and Oreo, the pony (who can see.)
The natural assumption is that Jasmine is dependent on Aladdin because he can see and she cannot but the truth is that it’s the opposite. I’ve always called Jasmine the xanax of her pasture because she gets along with everyone and is just a soothing presence. She gets around her pasture fine and has made Nova her BFF.
Jasmine loves Aladdin but doesn’t “need” him. Aladdin, on the other hand, adores his Jasmine and can’t stand to be apart from her. She can do anything she wants - including eating his food - and he lets her. He’s happy just to bask in her presence. Even I wouldn’t try to come between these two. They’re perfect together. 💝
