It’s Okay to be Brave.

Sometimes the bravest thing to do is to ask for help. You are not alone and do not have to struggle with basic activities as a result of an injury, aging, arthritis or limited movement.

At AdaptAbility we are constantly developing or sourcing new products to make your life easier.

As Occupational Therapists we believe that you can either:
1. Adapt the task
2. Modify the environment, or
3. Use assistive devices to continue to participate as you did before.

We understand that sometimes a person needs a carer or loved one to assist, but believe that they should still be afforded the opportunity to participate in some way, and complete the steps they can still do.

We are always ready and available to brainstorm with you if we do not have the answer or product.

PRODUCT FOCUS - Long-Handled Sponge

We like to provide our clients with options. We all have our own needs and sometimes we need something different. We now stock two types of long-handled sponges. A scrubby with medium length, and a medical sponge with an extra long handle.

Long handles assist with reaching feet and back, without needing to bend down.

At AdaptAbility, we advocate for safe participation in Activities of Daily Living.

PRODUCT FOCUS - Suction Scoop Bowls

Suction Scoop Bowls provide for mess-free mealtimes. The bowl has a raised and curved side which allows for easy scooping with one hand.

This product works well for anyone with limited hand functioning, poor proprioception, or when one arm/limb is injured or affected after a stroke.

PRODUCT FOCUS - Button Hook

This multi-functional tool enables dressing with one hand.

Buttoning in three simple steps.
1. Push the wire hook through the buttonhole.
2. Reach over the button and secure it in the narrow part of the wired hoop.
3. Pull the button through the hole.

The bottom has a hook that secures into the zipper for easy handling.

The Suction Scoop Plate is another great product for making mealtimes less messy and more functional. The suction part on the bottom of the plate will adhere to most surfaces. It has a raised and curved side for easy scooping, even with limited hand functioning.

PRODUCT FOCUS - Bum Wiper

This product enables you to reach your bottom for easy wiping. This might seem like a foreign concept, but as people age, they struggle to twist and reach as a result of painful backs, or reduced shoulder movements.

It is recommended for people who have had surgery and are not allowed to rotate their trunks or bend forward.

How does it work? You place toilet paper over the front part, wipe and then press the button to release the paper into the toilet after use. Being able to wipe is a giant step towards independent living.
