A New Chapter

George Surgical Centre would like to congratulate Garden Route Hand Surgeon, Dr. PC Pelser, on reaching a remarkable milestone in his surgical career by performing his 100th CMC joint replacement!

What is a CMC joint replacement?

A CMC joint replacement is a surgical procedure where the arthritic joint at the base of the thumb, called the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint, is removed and replaced with an artificial implant, typically done to alleviate pain and improve function caused by arthritis in that area; essentially, it's a thumb joint replacement surgery.

A successful CMC joint replacement can significantly improve thumb function, reduce pain, and allow for better hand movement.

The Garden Route Hand Unit, based in Gloucester Lane, George, specializes in the management of all diseases and injuries affecting the hand, elbow and peripheral nerves.
