Body Stress Release George - Healthy Living at Symonds

Body Stress Release George - Healthy Living at Symonds When the stresses of life - whether mechanical, chemical or mental/emotional - reach the level of overload, the body is no longer able to adapt constructively.

Body Stress Release is a natural, non invasive technique that focuses on releasing stored muscle tension to stimulate the nervous system and prompt the body's natural healing response. Body Stress Release is a health profession concerned with unlocking the tension stored in physical structures, thereby assisting the body in restoring its maximum efficiency. This gentle technique assists the body in its own healing process and brings effective relief from many forms of tension, pain and discomfort caused by the build-up of stress in the body. The stress becomes locked into the physical structures, causing pain, stiffness, numbness, headaches or postural distortions. This stored tension has an impact on the nervous system and undermines the body's natural ability to co-ordinate its functions and heal and maintain itself. Body Stress Release brings effective relief from pain and discomfort from many different causes, including back pain, neck pain, headaches and various types of stress and even sporting injuries. Body Stress Release does not use medication or machines, nor does it involve massage, manipulation, pressure points or energy meridians. It is practical and logical. Body Stress Release uses information provided by the body to determine where stored tension may be undermining the efficiency of the nervous system, disturbing the body’s ability to co-ordinate its functions and perform at its full potential.

“To benefit fully from the body’s capabilities we need to accept responsibility for our lifestyle choices and realise that we do influence our state of health. To deny this responsibility would be to see yourself as a victim of your circumstances. This would lead you to seek an external solution and to believe that someone else will heal you. Of course, outside assistance may help, but it is your own body that does the healing. When we accept responsibility we access the power that lies within us.” Gail Meggersee -Self-Healing with Body Stress Release.

As human beings we are made up of three aspects - body, mind and emotions. These are, of course, interconnected and interdependent. When we have a physical experience, it also affects us mentally and emotionally; something that has a mental or emotional impact will also reverberate into the body.
When body stress is present, not only are there physical effects, but one’s mental and emotional well-being are undermined. After the physical tension is released, some people become aware of greater mental clarity. Others feel an emotional lightness, or a surge of enthusiasm for life as energy levels rise.’ - Gail Meggersee

Mechanical stress or stress related to the movement of the body can be found in various parts of the body but is more predominantly associated with the lower back and neck area. It can be caused by various things such as poor posture, sudden or reflex actions and impact. Whichever has caused your mechanical tension or stress build up, BSR can most certainly help in easing your discomfort or pain.

How often should you have BSR sessions?
Here is a quick look at how we recommend structuring your BSR sessions to achieve maximum benefit for your body and mind.

At 65 *Norm was irritable, skeptical, and generally negative about life. Not surprisingly, as he had to contend with intense lower-back pain, was forced to use a walking stick, and felt worn out. He was reluctant to try BSR as he believed nothing could undo the ravages of age, but his daughter eventually convinced him to see a practitioner. Over the first three sessions, the pain withdrew in stages and Norm gave up his walking stick. He was greatly cheered by the realisation that, by using his back correctly, he could prevent the lower-back problem from recurring. He eagerly followed all the advice he was given and went shopping to find a lounge suite that would honour his spine's biomechanical design. He also resolved to cut down on the commitments in his life and start enjoying himself. He was able to return to his favourite activity, cycling. Norm described his transformation by saying that he felt he was coming back to the core of being who he was.

There are four major types of stress. Mental, Physical, Emotional, and Chemical. The diagram below shows a brief summary on each of them. Which one do you struggle with?

Formerly known as ‘Text Neck’, the term ‘Tech Neck’ has been widened to describe injury caused by young people leaning over their books, phone texting, gaming or working on iPads or laptops below their eye level. This may result in a long-term postural effect where the head is tilted forwards and strain is placed on the neck muscles and cervical spine. This postural imbalance may lead to headaches, shoulder tension and pain, as well as neck pains and stiffness.

Did you know that Body Stress may affect fertility?
Body stress may be present at any area of the spine, thereby affecting all areas of body functioning but when it comes to fertility it makes sense to highlight the effects of body stress specific to the lower spine.
As the nerve connections extend to the internal organs, any irritation to the spinal nerves of the lower back may result in back pain or disruption along the nerve pathways into the abdomen, colon, ovaries, uterus, groin, hips, legs or feet. While body stress remains stored in the lower back, the irritation to the nerves may undermine or disturb the normal functioning of the areas and organs they supply. Thus body stress may lead to digestive problems, e.g. constipation/diarrhea, bladder complaints and may adversely affect sexual or hormonal function.

We always like to be prepared for anything life throws our way, but please consider the impact a heavy handbag can have on your health. Overstuffed bags can cause poor posture by encouraging the carrier to lean to the one side resulting in pain and injury to your back, neck, shoulders and hips.
Instead of always carrying your handbag on the same shoulder, switch sides often so each shoulder gets rest. Square your shoulders - avoid lifting the shoulder on which the bag is carried to keep the straps from slipping.
Try to maintain good posture at all times. When standing, your head, shoulders, hips and ankles should line-up, one comfortably above the other.
Lightening your load is the best way to ensure that your muscles, back and shoulders stay healthy.
