It's been such a joyful month and a half running the Paw Prints Rescue and Rehoming - NPC 2018/554039/08 PBO 930076636 dog collection campaign. The generosity of our patients, Candice Ambler-Smith's dance class, friends, family and the greater community has been overwhelming. They have dropped off dog food, cleaning equipment, dog treats, and grooming items and one client made a cash donation which will go toward Paw Prints' much needed expenses this festive season. Our collection ends next week as does our Google review campaign - review Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy and you will go into a lucky draw to win a R500 Woolworths voucher as well as a donation of dog food to Paw Prints on your behalf. Please drop off any donations at our Meyrickton Medical Centre practice on Monday or Tuesday next week. Your support will be greatly appreciated by all the furbabies Paw Prints looks after with the aim of rehoming.

Physiotherapy remains the cornerstone of conservative (non-surgical) management for cervical disc injuries. The goals are threefold: to reduce pain, restore movement, and rebuild confidence in everyday function.
1. Education and Lifestyle Modification
2. Manual Therapy
3. Exercise Therapy
4. Nerve and Mobility Exercises
5. Pain Management and Self-Management
Research suggests that 60–90% of individuals experience meaningful symptom relief through physiotherapy and exercise alone, although recovery may be slower if there is significant disc degeneration (Battié et al., 2019).

Supporting Young Athletes at the Indoor Hockey Tournament

If you’re the parent of a national-level indoor hockey player, you know how demanding tournaments can be - fast games, quick turnarounds, and bodies that seldom get the rest they need. Should your child pick up a knock, strain, or more complex injury during play, physiotherapy support is available from Peter Pfeiffer of Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy.

Peter holds a degree in Physiotherapy, a degree in Sports Science, and the FIFA Sports Medicine Diploma - a combination that provides both clinical depth and a sophisticated understanding of high-performance sport. He blends sound diagnostic reasoning with practical, athlete-friendly treatment strategies, offering calm, skilled, and evidence-based care to all participating athletes.

What physiotherapy service provides:
Peter’s role is to assess what is happening in the moment, guide safe decisions, and offer treatment that helps each player return to the game with confidence when appropriate.

You can expect Peter to:
• Perform immediate assessments after injuries.
• Provide hands-on treatment for acute strains, impact injuries, or flare-ups of existing conditions.
• Offer strapping and clear guidance on recovery strategies.
• Communicate openly with parents so everyone understands the injury and the recommended next steps.

Availability During and After the Tournament
Peter is based at Hillcrest Medical Centre and will be available from Sunday and throughout the week for urgent assessments or treatment.

Billing Information
Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy bills standard medical aid rates, keeping treatment accessible for families. Please note that emergency rates apply for out-of-hours care, including assessments done outside normal practice times.

You can be reassured that your daughter is safe, supported, and guided by someone who understands both the sport and the science. Peter’s blend of clinical skill, sports-specific knowledge, and calm professionalism creates a protective environment in which young athletes can thrive.

Peter can be reached directly on 071 465 6032, or you are welcome to call Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy on 031 765 88 98.

We are excited to share that Sian Scott, an athlete we worked with for two years, competed in the Iron Gladiators Powerlifting meet and achieved the AWPC Best Female Open Lifter title which came with three national records.

This is what Sian had to say about her physiotherapist, Debbie Cameron, "I truly appreciate all your time and effort to get me back on my feet so that I could do it! Also it's thanks to you I even joined at all!"

According to Debbie, Sian came to her for a lumbar disc condition and through their sessions, Debbie encouraged Sian to change her sport to powerlifting which has been an incredible opportunity and experience for her.

"I am blown away with her success," exclaims Debbie.

This is the third outstanding athlete we have celebrated in a week. Keep working hard and keep managing and maintaining your body so you can compete at the highest level. Well done Sian, Travis Brigg and Corbin Thunder.

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Megan Fryer as she leaves for New Zealand on Saturday to start an exciting new chapter in her life.

We would like to acknowledge the incredible contribution Megan has made during her almost five years at Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy. Starting in January 2021 and later becoming a Senior Managing Physiotherapist, Megan has been an asset in every way - clinically, professionally, and personally.

Megan developed our post-COVID recovery programme, earned a practice service award, and completed her nationally accredited Pilates training. She has run multiple Pilates workshops for patients and junior physios and is highly skilled with Reformer and Wunda Chair work.

She further completed the FIFA Diploma in Sports Medicine, a Sports Concussion Management course, and even helped compile and present a concussion course for school staff at the 2025 National School Nurses Conference.

Megan consistently achieved outstanding clinical audit scores and expertly managed complex cases, including Discovery Health referrals and the Spinal Care and PEAK knee programmes.

She has also played a major role in training junior physiotherapists through our internal programme.

Megan is a calm, professional, compassionate leader who runs a practice with integrity and care. Loved by patients and colleagues alike, she is trustworthy, hardworking, and exceptionally capable.

We will all miss you terribly Meg - the Debbie Cameron team, your Pilates class members, your patients, friends and family. We wish you everything of the best and look forward to hearing about your adventures 💙

Corbin Thunder puts pen to paper for the 25/26 season with Sale FC Rugby Club. On 10th November, Corbin played his first game of the season after only playing two last season due to an ACL injury.

Corbin said, “Grateful to have been given another opportunity to be a dog this season! It’s been a challenging few months but they have only strengthened me - mentally, physically and spiritually."

The team at Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy are so proud of the grit and determination that Corbin has shown during his recovery process. Listening and implementing all the requirements to get back to the game he loves. We wish him all the best and look forward to watching his career go from strength to strength. Shawna Thunder

Congratulations to Travis Brigg on your fantastic achievement! We know you put the work in to deserve the win at the 2025 K-Way Sky Run - a mountain running challenge along the Wittenberg Mountain Range. Every one at Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy is proud of you.

"K-Way SkyRun preparation started in July when I first entered. When I arrived the weather was horrendous. After a postponed race start and change in route distance due to the weather I had to change my race plan that I had worked on and adapt to the new challenge,'' explains Travis.

"The start was at 6am on Sunday morning and the main part of the new 20km route was conquering what SkyRun call “The Wall”. The first 12km were easy running and I had managed to put a 3min30sec gap on second. By the time we started climbing the wall I had made a navigational error and lost my lead by only 10 metres. That’s when the work started - climbing the wall to maintain a lead. I reached the top and decided to take off," continues Travis.

"Technical descents are my jam!! Pushing the last 6km and finishing 1st in 2:02:09, I had managed to put a 12min gap on second place. I am still shell-shocked at what has happened and I am so grateful for all the support from my sponsors and everybody who has believed in me."

"A massive thank you to my coach Nic Acampora for getting me to where I am today! Thank you to Peter from Debbie Cameron Physio for always being able to sort out any muscle and joint issues."

Keep up the amazing work! K-Way SkyRun
