Today is World Alzheimer's Day. And we know that it's not only the person, but the whole family that is affected and needs support. At The Junction Medical Practice, we are here to support and guide you.

This September, we unite globally for World Alzheimer’s Month. 🌍💜

It’s a time to raise awareness about dementia, challenge the stigma that surrounds it, and show our support for the millions of people living with the condition, their families, and their caregivers.

Throughout this month, ADASA (Association for Dementia and Alzheimer's of South Africa NPC) will be sharing daily facts and resources to educate and empower our community. Knowledge is power, and together we can create a more dementia-friendly society.

1 - 7 August is World Breastfeeding week.
We know that every mother and baby's journey is different. Come talk to us. We support breastfeeding for as long as possible, but we also understand that for some this is a difficult journey. Do not feel alone in your motherhood journey.

5 facts for mothers:

Your body is ready to breastfeed from the moment your baby is born.
Lowers stress and anxiety.
Breastfeeding sets up a baby's immune system for life.
Breastfeeding fights infections.
The more you breastfeed in the early days, the faster your body makes milk.

Your baby tells you they are hungry by:
*Bobbing their head; turning and opening their mouth.
*Wriggling/clenching fists.
* Putting their hands near their face or chewing fingers.
*Licking their lips, opening and closing their mouth, making suckling noises.

should not be painful. If it hurts, a trained counsellor can help you breastfeed comfortably.

Today, we raise awareness about hepatitis—an inflammation of the liver that affects millions. Understanding this condition is the first step towards prevention and treatment! 📚

𝙇𝙚𝙩’𝙨 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙞𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣:
1. 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 𝗔: Usually a self-resolving viral infection, spread through contaminated food and water. Vaccination available!
2. 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 B: Can be acute or chronic and transmitted through body fluids. Vaccination can protect you!
3. 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 C: Often becomes chronic with no vaccine but effective treatments exist!
4. 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 D: Only occurs with hepatitis B—vaccinate against B to prevent D.
5. 𝗛𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 E: Typically resolves on its own; mainly found in areas with poor sanitation—vaccination available in some areas.
