Our centre brings together professionals who are all focused on the same goal: supporting people to move better, perform better, and recover well. Having the XPN team join the environment adds another layer to the ecosystem of health, movement, and performance within the building.

At Sports Medical Services, we believe that exercise is medicine, especially when navigating the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

We are incredibly proud to share that our in-house biocineticist, Suzelle Engels, is a Certified Oncology Exercise Trainer. This specialised qualification means she is uniquely equipped to design and oversee exercise programs specifically tailored for those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment - because people who are most at risk are the ones who need exercise the most.

Everybody is different, and every treatment plan is unique. Suzelle works closely with your existing medical team to ensure that your movement plan is safe, effective, and perfectly aligned with your recovery goals.

Just a friendly reminder to our patients and athletes that our team will be taking a short break over the Easter long weekend to rest and recharge.

Our Holiday Hours:
• Closed: Friday, 3 April – Monday, 6 April

Injured doesn’t have to mean inactive. When an injury is too acute to begin heavy rehabilitation, it can feel like progress has to pause. At Sports Medical Services, we focus on what can still be improved during this phase of recovery.

One of the tools we use is Functional Movement Screening (FMS) with Mariana Gahler, our expert sports recovery therapist.

FMS helps assess movement patterns to identify imbalances, mobility limitations, and stability deficits that may contribute to injury risk or delayed recovery. By addressing these underlying movement patterns early, athletes can build a stronger foundation for when full rehabilitation and return-to-play training begins.

Don't just stake our word for it: Blue Bulls loose forward Elrigh Louw used movement screening with Mariana as part of his recovery process, helping identify compensations and areas that needed attention before returning to high-performance training. By now, you are seeing him back on the field, but behind the scenes he started his rehab journey with FMS.
