March is a massive month at Sports Medical Services, and it’s not just because of the action on the field. We are celebrating the birthdays of three incredible doctors who are the backbone of our sports medical team.

Join us in wishing a fantastic birthday to:
Dr. Ruan Gennis (March 3rd): Happy Birthday, Dr. Gennis! We’re kicking the month off with you. Thank you for your clinical precision and for always ensuring our athletes start their recovery on the right foot.

Dr. Herman Rossouw (March 26th): As we head toward the end of the month, we celebrate Dr. Rossouw. Your expertise in managing high-pressure cases keeps our players calm and ready for the win.

Dr. Hanno van Zyl (March 25th): Rounding out a big month is Dr. Van Zyl. Your dedication to sports science and long-term athlete health is what sets our clinic apart.

Happy Birthday, Gents! May your year ahead be full of successful rehabs, minimal injuries, and plenty of well-deserved downtime.

The people who need exercise most are often the ones who feel least able to do it.

The most vulnerable populations can benefit the most from movement, including people living with:
✅ chronic illness
✅ cardiac conditions
✅ high blood pressure
✅ diabetes
✅ joint pain and long-term inactivity

Exercise isn’t only for athletes. It’s one of the most powerful tools we have to improve quality of life, strength, mobility, energy, and long-term health.

Start small. Start safely. Start with support. Book your evaluation today for a personalised programme to ensure your long term health.

The truth? Exercise is a MUST for your health span, not just how long you live, but how well you live. 💪🧠❤️

And here’s the best part:
- Something is better than nothing.
- 1 minute is better than 0 minutes.
If you’ve never exercised before, you don’t need to jump into 1 hour a day at the gym. Start simple. Start small. Start consistently.

All you need is to get your heart rate up - even just a little:
❤️ Aim to raise your heart rate by about 20 beats
📅 3 times a week

Small steps build strong habits. And strong habits build a stronger you.

Did you know?

Philda is one of only 7 people in the country who holds a BCS Honours degree in Medicine. 🩺👏 Even more impressive? This qualification was only offered for a few years, and Philda was part of the very first class to complete it.

We’re incredibly proud to have this level of expertise on our team.

This Valentine’s Day… choose you 💙.

Flowers are cute. Chocolates are great. But the real glow-up? Looking after your health.

Love yourself enough to get checked out. Whether it’s a ni**le you’ve been ignoring, pain that keeps coming back, or you just want peace of mind - we’ve got you.

Because there’s no care like self-care.

We asked the doctors at Sports Medical Services what made them choose sports medicine. 🩺🏃‍♂️

Because becoming a sports doctor isn’t just a career choice: it’s a passion for performance, recovery, and helping athletes do what they love.

🎥 Watch to hear their stories.

Get ready, everyone! 2026 is set for June, and remember - the early bird catches the medal! 🏅

If finishing Comrades is on your list for 2026, here’s the reality: you can’t cram your training in the last couple of weeks. Success comes from months of dedicated preparation - slowly, intelligently, and consistently.

The runners who cross the finish line strong aren’t necessarily the ones who pushed the hardest at the end; they’re the ones who began their training early, built a solid foundation, and stayed injury-free. So, start early.

Train smart. Let’s earn that medal together. Don’t forget to book your evaluation!

03/02/2026

Did you know? Your Comrades training doesn’t start with mileage; it starts with strength. 🏅

One of the biggest mistakes runners make? They focus only on distance and forget the body needs a foundation first.

December to March = strength training season: This is where you build the base that carries you through the heavy mileage later.

Because once Feb & March hit, the miles start climbing… and if your body isn’t strong enough to handle it, that’s when ni**les become injuries.

It's not too late! Set the foundation first, then build the distance. Book your evaluation with us for targeted training before the mileage hits.

We asked AJ van Wyk, one of the biokineticists at Sports Medical Services, what recovery tip he gives athletes, and actually follows himself. 💪🔥

Because recovery isn’t just something you do when you’re injured…It’s what helps you train harder, perform better, and stay consistent all season long.

Watch to hear AJ’s go-to recovery tip (and why it works).
