Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight.”
Why? Because in most cases it develops slowly and without pain or early warning signs, gradually damaging the optic nerve and affecting peripheral vision first. Many people only realise something is wrong once permanent vision loss has already occurred.
9 – 15 March is World Glaucoma Week, a global campaign to raise awareness about one of the leading causes of preventable blindness.
The good news is that early detection can prevent serious vision damage. A simple eye examination can detect glaucoma long before symptoms appear, allowing treatment to slow or stop the progression.
If you are over 40, have a family history of glaucoma, diabetes, or high blood pressure, regular eye checks are especially important.
Your vision is priceless. Don’t wait for symptoms before getting your eyes checked.
