Heart Smart Challenges

This week focuses on two powerful habits that play a critical role in protecting your heart now and in the future: regular cardiovascular movement and routine health checks. Simple, consistent actions can significantly reduce heart disease risk while supporting sustainable weight management.

Heart-health challenge 1: Get active
Cardiovascular exercise strengthens the heart muscle, improves circulation, lowers stress levels, supports healthy cholesterol balance, and assists with long-term weight control. The goal this week is not perfection, but progress. Every step counts — whether it’s walking more, taking the stairs, moving during breaks, or choosing activities you genuinely enjoy. Small increases in daily movement add up to meaningful heart-health benefits.

Heart-health challenge 2: Know your numbers
High blood pressure and high cholesterol often develop silently, causing damage long before symptoms appear. Knowing your numbers empowers you to take early action. This week’s challenge is to schedule a simple check of your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar. Early detection saves lives and supports informed, proactive health choices.

Pasta with Basil and Walnuts
Serves 6
1 Serve = 1 ½ CC + ½ Veg + 1 ½ Fat
Best Choice Recipe

Prep 5 minutes

450g pasta, cooked weight
1 cup fresh basil leaves
200g cherry tomatoes
60g walnuts
15ml (1 tbsp) olive oil
60ml (4 tbsp) fresh parsley
100g broccoli florets
Salt and black pepper

Method:
1.Finely chop the basil and the parsley and mix with the olive oil, halved tomatoes, broccoli and crushed walnuts.
2.Season and mix with the pasta. Serve.

Savoury Egg Muffins

Makes: 6 Muffins
1 Muffin = 1 Protein
Best Choice Recipe

Travel life: 2 days (refrigerated)

Ingredients:
• 4 eggs
• 30 ml (2 Tbsp) full-fat milk
• 45g hard cheese, grated (Use a mature cheddar or similar strong tasting cheese for maximum cheesy taste)
• 75g chopped spinach, peppers or onion
• Salt & herbs

Method:
1. Whisk eggs and milk, stir in veg and cheese.
2. Pour into greased muffin tray.
3. Bake 15 min at 180 °C until firm.

Weigh-Less Tip: These keep perfectly in a cooler bag — easy breakfast on the go!
