Weighted toys provide a calming effect through deep pressure stimulation, which can help reduce anxiety, improve focus, and aid in emotional regulation for both children and adults.

Can't wait to start using it in therapy :)

Our brave troops (aka squishy friends 🐙🦄🐠) helped us work on:
🗣 Early language and new vocabulary
🎭 Pretend play and imagination
🎨 Categorizing by color, shape & texture
🤝 Turn-taking and social interaction

Who knew learning could be this squishy and sticky? 😄

Wat maak my werk so besonders? 💫
Konneksie! Ek glo ek is gemaak om ’n spraakterapeut te wees – nie net oor ek lief is vir spraak, taal en al die fassinerende anatomie daaragter nie, maar omdat ek die ongelooflike voorreg het om deel te word van kinders se lewens. Om op ’n diep en persoonlike vlak te “connect”.

In hierdie foto het ek en een van my leerders besluit om ’n selfie te neem en sommer lekker te lag oor ons gesamentlike “battle scars”. Want soms is genesing nie net oefening nie – dis ook lag en menswees saam. 💛

Faith over Fear.

And oh, how often I need that reminder — not from a sermon or a book, but from the tiny humans I get to work with every day.

Children have this unshakable trust, this bold joy, and this beautiful simplicity in how they approach life. It humbles me. It inspires me.
Their resilience reminds me to keep going.
Their giggles remind me to slow down.
Their tiny milestones remind me that every small step matters.

In a world that can feel overwhelming, their faith (and sometimes their fearless jumping off the jungle gym 😅) reminds me to trust God with childlike confidence.

Every day with them is a lesson. Every moment a mirror.
I don’t always get it right, but they remind me why I try.

As therapists, we don’t just help little feet find their balance — we help little hearts find their voice, their confidence, and their joy.

Behind every tiny footprint is a giant leap forward, and we’re honored to walk (or wobble!) alongside them every step of the way. 💪🧸

📚 Books before bedtime… and baby babble before books! 🐰👶👧

As a speech therapist and a mom, moments like these melt my heart — big sister reading to her baby brother 💕📖

Introducing books from an early age has so many powerful benefits:

✨ Language development – Babies learn sounds, rhythm, and new words long before they can speak them.
🧠 Cognitive skills – They start making sense of pictures, patterns, and routines.
👀 Joint attention – Sharing focus on a book builds essential communication foundations.
👩‍👧‍👦 Social connection – When siblings read together, it’s not just adorable — it builds relationships, turn-taking, and empathy.

It’s not about reading every word perfectly. It’s about sharing the joy of stories, pointing, laughing, making silly sounds… and letting a book be a bridge between little hearts. 💗

Read early. Read often. Read together.

🎉 Speech Therapy Spotlight: Mr. Potato Head! 🥔💬

Who knew one toy could pack such a powerful punch when it comes to building language and social skills?

Today in therapy, we had loads of fun with Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head — and here's why they're more than just silly spuds:

🗣️ Vocabulary Boost – Eyes, nose, ears, mustache, shoes, hat… each piece introduces a new word to learn and use in context.
👀 Joint Attention – Looking at and talking about the same object together helps strengthen this foundational communication skill.
🔁 Turn Taking – “Your turn to add the arms!” – practicing patience and back-and-forth interaction.
🎭 Imaginary Play – We created silly potato families, gave them voices and stories, and brought language to life!
🧠 Body Concepts – Learning where each part goes supports understanding of the human body and spatial awareness.

Simple toy. Big goals. Happy hearts. 💙
