I write this with a concerned heart, and with the hope that my message will reach parents and future parents in our community.

If you know me, you’ll know that being a nurse and midwife isn’t just what I do – it’s who I am. My work is not just a profession – it’s a calling. The safety and well-being of mothers and babies is my highest priority, from the beginning of pregnancy through to birth and even beyond.

Since 2013, I have been offering non-diagnostic 4D scans in the Hartbeespoort and Brits area. I always work within my scope of practice as prescribed. Because I am not a sonographer or doctor, I may not take any medical measurements or make diagnoses. My goal is to give parents the special moment of seeing their baby in 4D and capturing those precious images and videos. However, my background as a midwife enables me to offer valuable advice and support.

I share this message because it has come to my attention that someone in our area is offering scans and taking measurements without the necessary medical training or qualifications. This person is not a sonographer or doctor, yet they are offering services that require medical competence – including early pregnancy scans and growth measurements.

I kindly ask that you be aware of this and be cautious about who you choose to accompany you on this special journey. It’s important to know who is qualified and who is not, because this is about more than just pretty pictures – it’s about your and your baby’s safety.

This is not a message of judgment, but rather one of sincere care and responsibility. Let us all work together to protect one another. If you are unsure, ask questions, do your research, and make sure you trust the right people with this precious journey.

Ek skryf hierdie met 'n bekommerde hart, en met die hoop dat my boodskap die ouers en toekomstige ouers in ons gemeenskap sal bereik.

As jy my ken, weet jy dat ek ‘n verpleegkundige en vroedvrou in murg en been is. My werk is nie net ‘n beroep nie – dis ‘n roeping. Die veiligheid en welstand van mamma’s en baba’s is my hoogste prioriteit, van die begin van swangerskap tot geboorte en selfs daarna.

Sedert 2013 bied ek nie-diagnostiese 4D-sonars aan in die Hartbeespoort- en Brits-omgewing. Ek werk altyd binne my bestek van praktyk soos voorgeskryf. Omdat ek nie ‘n sonograaf of dokter is nie, mag ek nie enige mediese afmetings of diagnoses maak nie. My doel is om vir ouers die spesiale oomblik te gee om hul baba in 4D te sien en daardie kosbare beelde en video’s vas te vang. My agtergrond as vroedvrou stel my egter in staat om waardevolle raad en ondersteuning te bied.

Ek deel hierdie boodskap omdat dit onder my aandag gekom het dat iemand in ons omgewing sonars aanbied én afmetings doen sonder die nodige mediese opleiding of kwalifikasies. Hierdie persoon is nie ‘n sonograaf of dokter nie, maar bied wel dienste aan wat mediese bevoegdheid vereis – insluitend vroeë swangerskapsonars en groeimetings.

Ek vra asseblief dat julle bewus sal wees hiervan, en versigtig sal wees met wie julle kies om julle op hierdie spesiale reis te vergesel. Dis belangrik om te weet wie gekwalifiseerd is en wie nie, want dit gaan oor meer as net mooi prentjies – dit gaan oor jul en jul baba se veiligheid.

Hierdie is nie ‘n boodskap van oordeel nie, maar eerder een van opregte sorg en verantwoordelikheid. Laat ons almal saamwerk om mekaar te beskerm. As jy onseker is, vra vrae, doen navorsing, en maak seker jy vertrou die regte mense met hierdie kosbare reis.
