This is one of my favourite quotes by Jung which I apply at the heart of my work with people and animals:

“Learn your theories as well as you can, but put them aside when you touch the miracle of the human soul”.

~ C. G. Jung

“Give yourself the gift of stillness and silence.
You’re enough.
You’ve done enough.
Release so you can rest.
More running, rushing, and overextending will not fill you.
You’re already enough.”

~ Dr. Thema

Pause. Breathe. Do a check-in. How are you emotionally, physically, cognitively (mentally), spiritually doing today? Our body tells no lies! An outward projection, an external expression of how we are feeling, thinking and doing internally in our holistic facets of self. Nourish your mind, nourish your soul, nourish your body. Juanita 🌿

"When people don't know how to say no, the body will say no for them in the form of illness."

~ Gabor Maté

Listen to your resistance, it holds vital information for you.

Observe the closed door, it might not be your door, or your time.

Respect the obstacles, your path might be another direction.

Honour your emotions, they are the way to your truth.

Discern your true self’s voice, echoing throughout each faithful loving beat of your heart.

Let go of wishing things were always another way and surrender to what is perhaps calling you in unexpected ways.

Some might call this the Buddhist way; it seems to me it’s also very much the horses’ way, and it’s certainly the way I’ve found through trial and error to come back to my authentic soul and right way, each and every time…

TRANSFORMATION OF HORSEMANSHIP - HOW IT'S DONE

Autonomous Horsemanship does not use training for human purposes. Horses may still learn and adapt through the relationship itself, guided by their own interests and needs.

Spend time with horses simply for the sake of connection, without the aim of riding, training, or achieving specific behaviors. The focus is on mutual understanding and companionship.

Observe horses and allow them to set the pace and tone of the interactions, rather than imposing human agendas or structures. The goal is to meet horses where they naturally are.

Refrain from any handling of horses that serves a utilitarian human purpose. The relationship is valued for its own sake, beyond any work horses can perform for humans.

AUTONOMOUS HORSEMANSHIP - HOW IT'S DONE

CURIOSITY AND RESPECT

Cultivate an open, calm yet focused presence around horses to allow for communication and understanding to emerge organically.

Approach horses with curiosity, respect, and an attitude of service to the horse rather than service from the horse. The goal is for human needs to not infringe on the horse's autonomy and self-directed life.

The Wisdom of the Heart

Your heart knows what your mind can’t yet fathom, accept or believe.

When we go against our heart we usually suffer, taking the long way around, unnecessarily, until we finally come back to the place which was always quietly calling us.

Because your heart knows:

Where you want to go.
What you want.
What you need.
And what you don’t want.
And what you don’t need.

So, place your hand on heart:

Breathe in and out through your heart centre.
Ask.
And listen.

Then you can move forward from a place of deeper peace, clarity and poise.
