Helping little ones breathe, move, and grow! 🌟

Megan recently worked with a 3-year-old patient struggling with swollen tonsils, mouth breathing, snoring, and jaw positioning. Through playful, targeted exercises at home, she’s helped him strengthen his jaw, support nasal breathing, and even reduce tonsil swelling — all while making therapy fun and engaging.

This case highlights why Megan is so passionate about paediatrics and TMJ — helping kids improve function, comfort, and overall well-being from an early age. 🦷💫

🦷 Low-Level Laser Therapy for TMJ: What the Research Shows

Recent studies show that LLLT is highly effective for managing temporomandibular disorders (TMD):
✔️ 60–70% reduction in pain (VAS scores)
✔️ 10–20% improvement in jaw opening (vertical aperture)
✔️ Superior results compared to occlusal splints, NSAIDs, and TENS, especially for myogenic TMD
✔️ Long-lasting relief when treatment extends beyond 4 weeks
✔️ Safe, non-invasive, and minimal side effects

By stimulating cellular repair, improving blood flow, and reducing oxidative stress, LLLT not only reduces pain and inflammation, but also enhances jaw mobility and tissue healing — making it a powerful, drug-free option for TMJ care.

Tight but weak — it’s more common than you think. 🌸

Marg recently treated a patient who was struggling with pelvic organ prolapse. The patient had a pessary fitted to help support her pelvic organs, but soon after, she began experiencing incontinence.

On assessment, Marg found that her pelvic floor was tight—but also weak. Through gentle release work followed by targeted strengthening, she helped restore support and reduce symptoms.

Every body is different, and that’s why a proper pelvic floor assessment is so important — it’s not just about strength, but balance and function too. 💪

How a TMJ-specialised physio can help with jaw discomfort 🦷

Even if your jaw just clicks, a TMJ physio can assess what’s going on and guide you toward relief.

They can:
✔️ Identify the underlying cause of your jaw pain or clicking
✔️ Provide targeted exercises to improve jaw movement and reduce discomfort
✔️ Correct posture and habits that may be contributing to TMJ strain
✔️ Help prevent pain from getting worse over time

Seeing a specialist early can make a big difference in managing TMJ issues and improving daily comfort.

What can you do if your jaw clicks? 🦷

A clicking jaw can be common, but it’s often a sign that your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) isn’t moving as smoothly as it should.

Here’s what you can do:
✔️ Avoid overloading your jaw – try to limit chewing gum, hard foods, and wide yawns.
✔️ Gentle jaw exercises – simple movements can help improve mobility and reduce clicking.
✔️ Posture check – poor neck and shoulder posture can contribute to TMJ strain.
✔️ Seek expert assessment – a physiotherapist can identify the cause and guide you with tailored treatment techniques.

Early care can prevent discomfort from getting worse — so don’t ignore that click!
