As a paediatrician, I truly appreciate that I get to do what I love every single day - supporting little ones as they grow, develop and thrive. Being trusted with a child’s health, from their earliest days through every milestone, is a privilege I never take lightly.

Paediatrics is more than my career, it’s my purpose, and I’m grateful to walk this journey with the families I serve.

Feeding a premature baby can look and feel very different from feeding a full-term baby. Because premmies are born earlier, their sucking, swallowing and coordination skills are still developing, which means feeding may require more patience, support and guidance. With the right support, regular monitoring and a gentle approach, most premature babies gradually build the strength and skills needed for effective feeding.

Breastfeeding is a beautiful journey – but it isn’t always pain-free. Sore or painful breasts are a common challenge for many new moms, especially in the early days.

The good news is that most discomfort can be improved with a few simple steps:
• Make sure your baby is properly latched and well positioned at the breast.
• Take your time to adjust and find a comfortable feeding position.
• Use a good quality ni**le cream to soothe irritation.
• If your baby has oral thrush, an antifungal cream may be needed.
• Watch for signs like a burning or tingling sensation on your ni**les, which could indicate thrush.

Pain shouldn’t be something you “just push through.” If discomfort is persistent, severe, or getting worse, it’s important to reach out to your paediatrician or a lactation consultant for support.

You don’t have to navigate breastfeeding alone – help is always available 🤍

Protecting your child’s health starts long before they can speak for themselves. Vaccines help their little immune systems fight serious, preventable diseases and keep them safe as they grow, learn and explore the world.

From birth through childhood, each vaccine on the schedule plays a vital role in building strong, lifelong protection. If you ever have questions about vaccines or your child’s immunisation schedule, discuss this with your immunisation sister or medical doctor.

Constipation is common when introducing solids, as the texture and consistency are thicker than what your baby is used to. A few gentle adjustments can help keep things moving:

- Offer small amounts of boiled and cooled water (10–20 ml, three times a day)
- Keep foods very soft and well-moistened in the early stages
- Introduce prunes as a snack option
- Focus on high-fibre vegetables
- Consider supplementing with a probiotic, if appropriate

Always monitor your baby’s comfort and consult your healthcare provider if symptoms persist.

Raising a reader starts with making reading fun 📚✨
When children enjoy stories, they’re more likely to build confidence, imagination, and a lifelong love for learning. Small, consistent moments with books really do add up.

School drop-offs can be tough for little ones and parents.
Some tears, clinginess, or hesitation at the start of the school year are completely normal and usually settle within a few minutes.

When separation anxiety is expected:
• Short-lived crying at drop-off
• Wanting extra hugs or reassurance
• Settling once distracted in class

When to be concerned:
• Intense distress that lasts most of the day
• Refusal to attend school over time
• Physical symptoms like frequent tummy aches or headaches
• Sleep disturbances or regression in behaviour

If anxiety feels overwhelming, persistent, or is affecting your child’s daily functioning, it’s important to seek professional advice. Early support makes a big difference in helping children feel safe, confident, and secure.
