Today I was immersed in virtual reality and given an ‘ intent’ experience. Super impressed by what hearing aids can do these days. Using motion sensors, these hearing aids are able to analyze the sounds around you and detect your intent to communicate.

As audiologists, the first part of the diagnostic battery is to look at the eardrum with an otoscope , we expect to see a bright pearly cone of light which is the picture on the left . When the eardrum appears red and inflamed, and the complaint is a rapid onset within 3 weeks, the usual suspect is Otitis media - picture on the right . Acute otitis media is more commonly seen in children between the ages of 12-24 months because of the shorter and wider and more horizontally positioned Eustachian tube. Otitis media generally is of viral origin more commonly seen with the RSV virus and rhinovirus and LESS commonly seen with the corona virus and influenza type A virus .
It’s important to be aware of what causes a middle ear infection.

Foam doesn’t only belong in the bathroom! This was a wonderful opportunity to gain engagement, request for “more” and work on sounds such as spray, wash, on, soap, oooo, aaaah, rub rub rub!! The smiles were endless in this session😁😁
