Constipation in young school age children is so common! I see it all the time. Some of the complaints are stomach cramps, bloating, gassiness, fussy eaters. Whenever I hear that day or night time wetting is a problem, I first look for constipation. This is good advice....
🌟 5 Reasons your child may be bedwetting 🌟
1. They are constipated! P**p squishes the bladder and makes it “hiccup” and wet overnight.
2. They aren’t drinking enough water in the day, concentrated urine irritates the bladder wall and can make it squeeze and wet at night. Aim for 30mls per kg of body weight. No fluids 2 hours before bed.
3. Bladder irritants in the afternoon and before bed. Watch for tea, juices, anything fizzy (including water), and milk.
4. They are snoring and or mouth breathing. This means they aren’t getting into a deep enough sleep to make anti diuretic hormone and slow down urine production over night. Studies have shown that having tonsils removed can reduce bedwetting!
5. They aren’t doing enough wees in the day so bladder takes the opportunity to empty at night. Ensure they are doing 6-8 wees a day.
I’ve had so many questions about bed wetting this week. Thought I would pop some common causes here too 🌟
