Migraines are more than just a headache. They’re a neurological condition that can last hours to days, often with symptoms like a throbbing head, pain (usually one side), nausea & vomiting and sensitivity to light/sound.

Triggers include stress, certain foods (chocolate, caffeine, cheese), hormonal changes and lack of sleep.

Managing triggers with the right therapy means fewer, milder attacks.

Beta-blockers work by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in the body.

By blocking β1 receptors in the heart, they slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure, while some non-selective beta-blockers also act on β2 receptors, which can cause bronchoconstriction. A few, such as carvedilol and labetalol, also block α1 receptors, leading to vasodilation.
