💙 Pregnancy Awareness Week 💙
📅 10 – 16 February
Pregnancy Awareness Week is used by the Department of Health to strengthen pregnancy education and highlight key issues that support healthy pregnancy and safe motherhood.
Pregnant women are encouraged to start antenatal care as soon as pregnancy is suspected, and certainly within the first trimester.
✨ Early antenatal care helps by providing:
• Early detection and management of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, infections, and anaemia
• Free HIV testing and voluntary counselling (VCT)
• Early recognition of danger signs during pregnancy and after delivery
• Birth preparedness and complication readiness
• Guidance on self-care, including nutrition and good hygiene
• Information on the role of the father, partner, and family
🤍 Every pregnant woman has the right to:
• Choose a support person during pregnancy, labour, and birth
• Be treated with respect, dignity, and confidentiality
• Ask questions and receive clear explanations about her care
Knowledge, support, and early care make a powerful difference for both mother and baby.
