✨️PERICARDIAL EFFUSION✨️
🌲"Water in the heart", or Pericardial effusion, is the build up of excess fluid in the sac surrounding the heart, and can be caused by various factors including infections, inflammation, trauma, cancer, heart problems, kidney failure, liver disorders and certain medications.
🌲Normally, a small amount of fluid in this space helps lubricate and cushion the heart, however, an excessive build up can lead to complications, including Cardiac tamponade, where the heart is compressed, preventing it from pumping effectively
🌷🌷🌷BELOW ARE SOME OF THE CAUSES OF PERICARDIAL EFFUSION:
1. AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
Conditions like Rheumatoid Athritis and Lupus can cause inflammation and fluid build up around the heart
2. INFLAMMATION
Pericarditis (inflammation of the Pericardium) can result from various causes, including infections, autoimmune disorders or heart attacks
3. INFECTIONS
Viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic infections can inflame the Pericardium and lead to fluid build up
4. HEART PROBLEMS
Conditions like heart failure, heart attacks and heart surgery can contribute to fluid up
5. KIDNEY FAILURE
Kidney failure can cause fluid to accumulate in various parts of the body including the heart
6. MEDICATIONS
Certain medications including some chemotherapy drugs can cause pericardial effusion as a side effect
7. Radiation therapy for Cancer, an underactive thyroid(hypothyroidism) and Certain toxins can also contribute to Pericardial Effusion
8. TRAUMA
Injury to the chest, such as from a car accident or penetrating injury, can damage the Pericardium and cause fluid accumulation
