LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea, and that change doesn’t wear off.
Most patients enjoy stable, clear vision for many years. Due to natural ageing, you may still need:
• Presbyopia correction in your 40s: presbyopia brings the need for reading glasses.
• Cataract surgery in your 60s: cataracts can cloud vision, requiring lens surgery.
✨ LASIK often provides stable vision for many years, and additional options are available later in life as natural age-related changes occur.

Most people have both eyes corrected together, but in some cases, one eye may be treated on its own.👁️ This may happen if:
• Perfect Vision in One Eye: If one eye has no refractive error, there’s no need for treatment.
• Different Eye Conditions: If the other eye has a condition that LASIK cannot correct, such as advanced retinal disease, previous trauma, or if it is non-seeing (blind).
• Presbyopia Correction Only: If your distance vision is normal and you’re only seeking near vision improvement, it’s sometimes beneficial to perform PresbyLASIK or Allotex on one eye only to reduce dependence on reading glasses.
• Staged Treatments: In rare cases, your surgeon may recommend treating one eye first to observe healing or visual adaptation before proceeding with the second eye.

✨ Whether it’s one eye or both, your surgeon will guide you on the option that keeps your vision balanced and comfortable.

Caring for your face after eye surgery is simple, but it requires a little patience.
• First 24 hours: avoid washing your face.
• After that: use a gentle cleanser (no scrubs for two weeks) and avoid splashing water into your eyes.
• Use a damp cotton pad or soft cloth around the eye area, and let it air dry naturally.
• Avoid rubbing. Being gentle is key.
✨ Treat your eyes with extra care as they heal.

Remember: Avoid getting water in your eyes, especially during activities like swimming, for 1 month after surgery.

Did you know LASIK may be considered from around age 18, once your prescription has stabilised? Having the procedure earlier can mean more years of visual independence for suitable candidates.

There’s no “one-size-fits-all” age for vision correction:
👁️ In your 20s and 30s: LASIK or PRK are common options.
👁️ In your 40s and 50s: blended-vision procedures such as PresbyLASIK or Allotex may address both near and far vision.
👁️ After 55: lens-based options may reduce reliance on glasses.

🌟 Suitable treatments vary with age, and your ophthalmologist will recommend what’s best after a full assessment.

For patients with cataracts or those over 55, the focus shifts to lens-based procedures. These treatments replace the eye’s natural lens with an artificial one.

👀 Options include:
• Multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs): reduce dependence on glasses for near and far vision.
• Standard Monofocal IOLs: restore clear distance vision, though reading glasses are still needed.

This is why cataract surgery is often called a “refractive opportunity”, it can restore both clarity and reduce dependence on glasses.

Do you find near objects like product labels or your phone becoming blurry, while distant signs still look clear? You may have hyperopia (farsightedness), a common refractive error where light focuses behind the retina instead of on it.

In this video, you’ll see a simulation comparing normal near vision to how clarity varies with different dioptres for people with hyperopia.

✨ Is this a familiar sight? It doesn’t have to be.

From your 40s onwards, it’s common to notice you need reading glasses. This age-related vision change is called presbyopia.
The good news? Modern solutions go beyond simply adding reading glasses. Options include:
✔️ PresbyLASIK: advanced laser reshaping that creates a blended vision profile for improved near and distance focus
✔️ Allotex corneal inlays: a natural corneal tissue inlay to improve near vision in suitable patients
✔️ Presbyopic ICLs: implantable contact lenses that allows patients to see both near and distant objects clearly
If you had LASIK years ago, you may also need a “top-up” to manage presbyopia.
