Musicians are athletes too… and their bodies tell the story.
Did you know that 4 out of 5 professional musicians will experience an injury during their careers?
Most of these are overuse injuries, affecting the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders - carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinopathies or bursitis. But what’s more concerning is how many musicians keep playing through pain. Physiotherapy can definitely help!
Pain doesn’t just appear overnight. It progresses:
➡️ Pain after playing
➡️ Pain during playing
➡️ Pain affecting performance
➡️ Persistent pain… even at rest
The earlier it’s addressed, the better and quicker the response to treatment.
Common risk factors:
• Sudden increase in practice or performance load
• Poor posture and technique
• Inadequate rest and recovery
Just like athletes, musicians need:
• Structured conditioning
• Cross-training
• Injury prevention strategies
Ask your physio for help.
For musicians taking care of their bodies isn’t optional - it’s part of the performance.
