😝Your tongue is not just for taste or speech
It’s a Nervous System Switch. 😛
Those strange movements you see in flow workouts (Sticking the tongue out, pressing it into your cheeks, moving it with your breath) …are actually tapping into deep neurological pathways.
Here’s what’s really happening:
The tongue is wired through multiple cranial nerves that connect directly into your brainstem (where your stress response is regulated). When you move or press the tongue, you send signals that can shift your body out of stress mode.
Sticking your tongue out opens the airway, relaxes the throat, and can stimulate vagal reflexes (think: yawning or sighing).
Pressing the tongue into the cheeks creates sensory feedback that helps your brain regulate tension and coordination.
Combine this with slow breathing and you create a powerful calming loop in the body.
This is why these exercises are used in:
– Somatic therapy
– Breathwork
– Yoga & mobility flows
You’re not just “stretching your tongue”
You’re training your nervous system.
😋😜😝😛
