Today is did you know that , especially, need to be read to early, and often. Aim for at least 15-minutes a day. … The second amazing, and most important, thing that happens when you read to your preemie is you are bonding with her! Giving Children Wings has branches in most towns across South Africa and we are ready to help your child get back to reading like they did pre-lockdown.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗨.
By now many of you who currently have babies in have had your visiting hours reduced dramatically. This is very devastating for both you and the baby and it may have a long term effect on both of you. Why ? well because of attachment.
Attachment happens when your right brain communicates with the baby's right brain and allows you to bond with your baby for life. Attachment is when you as an adult can interpret correctly what your baby is communicating non verbally to you and how you communicate back.
Initially, Attachment is facilitated by the use of oxytocin. Oxytocin is known as the cuddle hormone and allows for baby, no matter how preemie to make eye contact and it is during eye contact that you "fall in love".
Oxytocin is only released during very specific circumstances. During birth, during breastfeeding, when somebody hugs you hard for more than 30 seconds and during s*x.
While you have a baby in NICU and you have reduced visiting hours here are some tips for you to treat your baby.
💜 Skin to skin remains essential and very important. If you cant hold baby then cup baby's head and body firmly with your hands while humming or singing to the baby. Remember baby only knows your voice and smell.
💜 Use cotton bonding squares. Wear the square as a breast pad for 6 hours before you visit and place near the baby's nose. They will smell you and know you there even when you gone.
💜 Have a photo of you and your partner laminated. It needs to be black and white as that is the colors baby sees. If laminated the staff can clean it. Put the photo up in the incubator close for baby to see.
💜 When you are doing skin to skin firmly massage baby's hands and feet. The baby will release oxytocin and make eye contact. Now you can hum or sing to the baby again. Please choose one song and make that "your song". You can use a little oil to massage
💜 Do an affidavit at the police station stating the baby's name and the hospital's name as a travel permit and ask the hospital to place a sticker on the affidavit.
All of these little things will make the baby feel safe and loved.
Please do not hesitate to ask for help if you are not coping. You are allowed not to cope with all of this pressure . I have added a notice from a hospital in the UK so that you can see its standard practice at the moment Thinking of you

Let's talk by Linda Pretorius a Sensory Neonatal Nurse with 20years experience in NICU 👇

Today I want to chat around the .

FACT! It hasn't killed one baby or child under 9 worldwide and this includes preemies with BPD at the time of posting!

Obviously, handwashing and spraying remain essential. You may also want to consider this with regards to supplements; Respitron has shown us in our group to well exceptionally on all our preemies (at home), Respitton boosts immunity and research has shown that by adding a ZInc supplement also helps. My personal suggestion would be Zinplex.

By boosting immunity you will make a huge difference.
If a mum is positive at delivery they seem to be splitting baby and mum but they are still giving breast milk. Once both tests either way so positive or negative. This position may change

Should you wish to order Respitron you can contact Engela Greyling she is a local agent!

About Little Miracle Touch

PURPOSE

Little Miracle Touch is the result of a need to support and educate parents in NICU and beyond. Engela van der Heever – Greyling (sensory integration trained Occupational Therapist) delivered twin 26 week gestation micropreemies. Engela quickly realized after 109 days in NICU that there was a great need for parents to interpret the world of prematurity and NICU. She has since collaborated with a multidisciplinary group of similiar minded professionals to create Little Miracle Touch.

MISSION

Little Miracle Touch helps preemies explore their world with joy, love and happiness through appropriate neuro-developmental and sensory experiences.
